Officials in Philadelphia are inventorying existing resources to accommodate foreign nationals should Texas Governor Greg Abbott bus them there, a report has said.

Kevin Lessard, a Democratic Mayor Jim Kenney spokesperson, said the city is inventorying existing resources If those seeking safe haven find their way to Philadelphia.

Although the state has not received or been warned of any bus of immigrants headed to them, they took it upon themselves to prepare.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott and other Republican Governors, such as Florida's Ron DeSantis, have been targeting Democrat-led areas as destinations to bus illegal foreigners.

Transporting foreign nationals by bus made waves earlier this year when The Texas Tribune reported that Governor Abbott was moving illegal immigrants released from federal custody in Texas to Washington, D.C. and other locations.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis recently followed this plan by sending undocumented foreign nationals apprehended at the U.S.-Mexico border to President Joe Biden's home state of Delaware.

Immigration advocates and other critics have been arguing that the funds used on these projects could be better spent on more pressing needs of state residents instead of targeting and demonizing immigrants.

Many political leaders questioned whether this plan would materialize, and the White House called it a publicity stunt.

After receiving a lot of criticism, Governor Abbott's office released a statement saying the transportation would have to be voluntary, a different tone than the one he belted at an earlier press conference.
