6 Last-Minute Kitchen Gifts You Can Still Snag At Your Local Stores

Vee Eats

Surprise! Where did the time go? We are a few days away from Christmas and you realized you are still missing a few gifts for friends and family. Last-minute shopping can be quite stressful if you don't know what you are looking for but thankfully there are gift guides everywhere to help you along the way. With the pandemic happening, there are now more people who have picked up cooking as a hobby instead of eating out so here are some last-minute kitchen appliances suggestions that can make great gifts for the food lovers and cooks in your life. Make sure to move quickly though since there are now shipping delays so I would recommend going in-person to the retail stores if possible.

1. Instant Pot

Honestly, who doesn't know about the Instant Pot? It's American's most beloved multicooker and pressure cooker which makes cooking faster than the usual method. This is the perfect gift for someone who is starting to cook but doesn't have too many appliances yet since they can use the IP to make so many recipes. The 6-quart size is my favorite since I can make bigger portions that feed 2-3 people and still have enough for leftovers. The size isn't too obnoxious and doesn't take up a crazy amount of counter space. You can make anything from porridge, fried rice, beef stews to one-pot dinners, or even a whole chicken since it fits. The functions of the IP are: soup/broth, meat/stew, bean/chili, poultry, slow cook, porridge, rice, multigrain, steam, saute, and of course pressure cook.

If someone already has the Instant Pot, consider the new air frying lid that recently came out. Instead of gifting them another device that will take up space, purchase the air fryer hood so they can alternate between different options. Depending on which Instant Pot you choose, catch them on sale now for $50 - $70.

2. Air Fryer

Delicious fried food without all the oil and effort to fry? Sign me up! The concept behind the Air Fryer is pretty neat since it circulates hot air inside the basket which makes cooking relatively quick and crispy. Instead of pouring an inch of oil to deep-fry, you can just toss it into the air fryer and it'll cook it for you which saves you from possibly burning yourself or cleaning up the mess afterward. You don't have to use the air-fryer just for fried food since there are dozens of recipes that you can find online. I love cutting my own potato wedges and dropping them into their air fryer to make french fries or even making miso-glazed salmon for a healthy dinner. If there is someone in your life who wants to eat healthier, the air fryer would be the perfect gift for them. My personal favorite is the Power XL Vortex Air Fryer and it is currently on sale at Target for $70 instead of the retail price of $130. What a steal.

3. KitchenAid Mixer

This appliance is a must-have gift and would be perfect for the baker in your life or someone who recently picked up baking (I'm looking at everyone who picked up banana bread making and bought all the flour during quarantine). While it is quite pricey, they are a good investment and can last an entire lifetime. It can whip up batter for cakes, cookies, frosting, cream, bread, and pizza dough without any effort and is a game-changer in any kitchen. Save yourself some time and trouble with kneading and mixing with your hands. If they already have the mixer, then consider purchasing the interchangeable attachments so they can slice, make pasta, grind, strain, etc. The stand mixer retails from $250 - $400 depending on the model you choose.

4. Keurig Coffee Machine

Everyone needs a good cup of caffeine to start the day but coffee adds up if you go to the local Starbucks or coffee shop nearby every day. Why not consider purchasing a coffee machine and brewing it yourself? There are tons of coffee machines in the market but I highly recommend the Keurig coffee makers. They are affordable and you can choose from hundreds of flavors for the K-cup pods. If they already have the coffee maker, then consider purchasing more pods or gift sets so they have more in their collection. The Keurig coffee makers retail from $100 - $150 depending on the model.

5. Ember Temperature Control Smart Mug

Another great gift idea for the coffee lover along with the Keurig is the Ember Temperature Control Smart Mug but you can use this mug for all of your hot beverages. If you know someone who drinks coffee throughout the day, then this will be the perfect gift for them since it will keep their coffee warm and at a consistent temperature. You use the smartphone app to set your temperature and customize the settings and it ranges from 120F to 145F. It is on the pricey side for a mug and retails at $100 but from all the hype I heard from my friends, this is a must for those who like to keep their drinks warm instead of having to get up and warm it back up.

6. Dash Egg Cooker

Absolutely game changer if you love eating eggs. This egg cooker makes them perfectly each time and can make hardboiled, soft boiled, poached, and scrambled eggs. No longer are the days where you have to wait for the water to boil and then drop the eggs in when this gadget does it all perfectly for you within minutes. It only costs $15 and you can find it at your local Target.

I hope these last-minute gift ideas are helpful for the cooks and food lovers in your life. Most of these items should be accessible in your local Walmart, Target, and other big retail stores. If I were to choose one item from this list, it definitely has to be the Instant Pot because the recipes you can make are endless. Let me know what you think about this gift guide below. Happy holidays! #nbholidaycheer
