Jersey City is full of excellent restaurants. Returning to an old tried and true favorite is always a safe bet, but for those looking for a bit of excitement and intrigue, here's a peak into five new must-try restaurants that have opened this year.

Krewe of McGinley Sq | 673 Bergen Ave

This BYOB eatery is only open Thursdays through Sundays. New Orleans inspired, the restaurant offers a mix of classics from po-boys and collard greens to jambalaya. The menu also features vegan options and Vietnamese influences. The owners have stated that they're both open to experimenting with tons of different cuisine styles in addition to Cajun. You can expect exciting menu updates and live music events at this restaurant in the near future.

Chickies | 236 Pavonia Ave

Located in the Hamilton Park neighborhood, Chickies is one of the most anticipated openings of downtown Jersey City. With almost 2 years in the making, they finally opened their doors this week. Marty's | 488 Central Ave

A hamburger restuaunt set in an industrial chic space, Marty's commitment to fresh never frozen beef sets them apart from your regualr run of the mill burger joints. Their specialty burgers include the Swiss Shroom Dijon, Bacon Avocado, and the Jalapeno. An absolute must try restaurant for every burger lover.

Spice Up | 713 Newark Ave

This recently opened Indian restaurant is located in Journal Square. Available for delivery, pickup, and dine- in options, Spice Up offers a little something for everyone. From classic to more unconventional pairings. The restaurant also serves a mix of Indo-Chinese cuisine like noodles and fried rice.

Kulchay | 64 Sip Ave

Another new and exciting restaurant in Journal Square. Kulchay takes its name from a naan like flatbread eaten in India. Kulchay however, adds an innovative twist to the otherwise very traditional bread staple. They currently offer naan pizza with over 10 different topping options including cheeseburger, buffalo chicken, lamb, and beef. They also offer more classic options like chutney, seekh kababs, and chicken tikka rolls. The cherry on top is their dessert. Choose between a halwa naan stuffed with nuts and sooji halwa or their decadent Nutella stuffed soft rolls.
