Millburn Deli to Open Location in Montclair Soon

The Millburn Deli is arguably one of the most well known delis in the state of New Jersey. Over recent years, the deli has become so popular that the owners have decided to expand. In addition to making their store larger and opening a location in Morristown, they are now looking to open in Montclair in the near future. Here’s everything we know so far about this new location.

Plans for an official opening date have been set for this Fall. The deli will be moving into the space formerly known as Watchung Deli located at 256 Park Street. Watchung unfortunately had to close its doors back in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The deli had been opened in this location since 1926.

But much like Watchung Deli, Millburn Deli has also been a part of the Short Hills community for decades. Opening back in 1946, the deli has continued to serve the same original sandwiches that’s made them so popular and such a beloved choice amongst locals. They are best known for their sloppy joe sandwiches, a NJ staple that dates back to the early 20th century. Millburn Deli sells this classic in over 15 different ways.

Other notable sandwich favorites include the Godfatha, which consists of chicken cutlet, bacon, mozzarella, the Russian dressing served on their iconic freshly made sub roll. Another favorite is the Urban Cowboy, a brown sugar pastrami and Swiss cheese sandwich topped with dill pickle, coleslaw, and chipotle honey mustard.

In addition to subs, Millburn deli also serves salads and lots of delicious desserts. An absolute must try off their menu is their homemade iced tea. The tea comes in a rather large serving but it’s so delicious you’ll probably be able to finish it in one sitting.

You may also notice a single, thick pickle chip sitting a top your sandwich when you unwrap it. This is Millburn Deli tradition and you even have the option to ask for an entire side order of pickle chips, one of the best compliments to a Millburn Deli sub.

Although hours for the Montclair location have yet to be finalized, it is important to note that although The deli's hours at the original location are 7 days a week from 9am to 5:30pm, the hours at their Morristown location are 9am to 5pm and closed on Sundays. It may be possible that this third location in Montclair will have similar hours of operation.
