French Riviera Style Restaurant Coming to Hoboken

You may remember the sad news of Cucharamama Restaurant located on 233 Clinton Street announcing its closure in early 2020. We now finally have an update on what will be coming to that space and we’re super excited for it.

Owners of Barbès Lisa and Omar Balouma and Abdellah Ksiyer have confirmed that they will be taking over that location with what is described as a Southern French inspired restaurant to be called La Boheme.

If you’ve ever been to their restaurant located in Uptown, you know Barbes is an intimate spot with a mix of French & North African food and a vibe based on a Parisian neighborhood that’s always packed come dinner time.

We know we can trust the magic behind Barbes, but what can we expect from this new venture? The South of France, otherwise known as the French Riviera has a heavy Mediterranean influence so diners can expect a healthy range of flavor from lemon, parsley, apricot, and mint, to warm, savory flavors like garlic, cumin, and black/red pepper.

So far we also know the ambiance of the restaurant will also pull inspiration from Southern France with a large outdoor-esque vibe, that will blend seamlessly with the current landscape of the restaurant industry shifting business outside due to covid.

The owners have shared that the cuisine will be very healthy and light as Mediterranean cuisine is known to be. The menu will offer some typical southern Provencal dishes as well as many vegetarian and gluten-free options.

The brick oven that was formerly used in Cucharamama will also be put to use at the newly-renovated spot. La Boheme will be using the brick oven for most of the menu.

You can also expect an extensive cocktail and wine menu to pair with these dishes too, similar to Barbes, as well as live music to accompany the South of France vibes.

The new restaurant is slated to open its doors in 2021.
