Smorgasbar is Coming to Jersey City This Month

Vanessa Vanacore

If you've lived in the NYC area long enough you've most definitely already heard of the notorious Smorgasburg that takes place in Williamsburg, Brooklyn during the summer months. Known for being the largest open-air food market, their founders have decided to take over the Lutze Biergarten in Jersey City starting this month.

As of now, we can expect this new venture to be called Smorgasbar. It will be open 6-7 days a week and will feature pop up food vendors every weekend, and yes, that includes some of the original Smorgasburg food vendors.

What makes this Jersey City location so unique is the fact it's inside the Biergarten, so you can expect unique brews and drinks to be at the forefront of this event. Lutze is conveniently located by the Harborside Lightrail Station in the waterfront section of Jersey City, so you already know the views of the NYC skyline and Hudson River are incredible.

In addition to the Smorgasbar located in the Biergarten, the founders have also already opened an outdoor Smorgasburg market on Saturdays from 11am to 6pm until at least October, located in the parking lot at 195 Hudson Street, which is right next to the Exchange Place Path Station in Jersey City.

The food lineup is obviously a bit smaller than in Prospect Park or Williamsburg; part of that is due to the decrease in business some mobile food vendors have faced over the last year. Thankfully however, that list is likely to grow as time goes on and capacity limits on outdoor gatherings increase.

The current lineup will consist of 25- 30 different food vendors every Saturday and includes fan favorites like Berg’s Pastrami, Big Mozz, Bisska, C Bao, Carlitos Barbeque Taqueria, D’Abruzzo, Duck Season, Oyster Party, and Wood-Fired Edibles. Most of the vendors will be a mix of local New Jersey owned food businesses and vendors that have previously appeared at Smorgasburg locations in New York City.
