How To Become a Morning Person

Travel Maven

Studies show that you are in fact born either loving the morning or dreading it, and you can actually blame this on your genetics. Scientists have been able to identify the genetic associations with 'morningness' as well as ties to lifestyle patterns and other traits.

But this doesn’t necessarily mean you can never learn to hate the morning a little less. Simple lifestyle changes can make all the difference in how you wake up.

Read below to find out how you too can jump out of bed bright-eyed and ready to take on the world.

Get a good sleep the night before.

Ok so this is a no brainer. But sleep doesn’t come easy to a lot of us. Fortunately, there are many ways you can change that. Finding the method that works best for you takes time but things that seem to work for many people are limiting screen time before bed and making sure you’re on a sleep schedule. Studies show the more blue light you take in before bed the more your body’s natural melatonin is depleted. This prevents you from feeling tired and eventually being able to fall asleep. If you’re addicted to your phone like the majority of us, replacing it with something just as engaging can be super helpful. A really good book or podcast is perfect for this. Setting a sleep schedule is another simple change you can make. According to sleep experts, a steady and consistent schedule not only increases the amount of sleep you get each night, it can also improve the quality of your sleep. When you get a solid seven to nine hours of sleep at night you are much more likely to wake up feeling refreshed and in a better mood.

Give yourself enough time to eat a solid breakfast.

Nothing can ruin your morning more than rushing out the door every morning because you didn’t give yourself enough time to get ready and eat. It’s so important to nourish our body properly before taking on the day. Drinking water and eating a real breakfast (preferably a mix of protein, carbohydrates and fat) can make a huge difference in how you function in the beginning of the day. We need the fuel for energy and brain power.

Do something that brings you joy.

Giving yourself something to look forward to in the morning can change your entire mindset when you first open your eyes. Whether that’s cooking a nice breakfast or taking a really relaxing shower. Engaging in activities that make us happy first thing in the morning make getting out of bed that much easier.
