As a result of the stabilization of expenses in relation to fuel costs, the electric utility Florida Power & Light (FPL) took some measures. Among them is the decision to reduce rates for the third time this year.
Therefore, starting in July, customers will receive a reduction in their bills. The request was approved by the state Public Utilities Commission.
In other words, customers who consumed an average of 1,000 kWh will save more than $8.00 USD. But, although for many it could mean a negligible amount, it represents a considerable reduction in the face of the last increases registered.
For example, the price per 1,000 kilowatts rose to $144.38 in April alone. In this sense, Armando Pimentel, executive director of FPL, expressed the company's commitment to keep bills as low as possible.
The executive director of FPL clarified that all users will have discounts on their bills, whether residential or commercial. However, costs may also vary according to the high consumption of each customer.
That is to say, depending on the type of tariff they have, commercial customers will see decreases between 2% and 5% in their July bills. Even so, the amounts will be significant compared to current costs.
Also, bills issued by FPL are comprised of base rates, fuel and maintenance/storm-related costs.
How can we further reduce our bills?
In response to this question, Armando Pimentel offered some tips to Florida residents in order to save energy.
One of the easiest actions to take is to clean dryer filters to minimize drying time. They can also turn off lights and fans in unoccupied rooms.
Unplugging appliances that are inoperative and keeping the temperature of the home at 78° or higher are effective measures to save.
Finally, they can also use the FPL App to monitor energy usage on a daily, weekly and monthly basis.
