The British YouTube channel Carwow staged a drag race between BMW M5 CS, AUDI RS 6 Avant, Mercedes-AMG E 63 S, and Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid Sport Turismo. Eight-cylinder four-wheel-drive sedans and station wagons competed in quarter-mile starts, parallel runs from 50 mph (80 km/h) to half a mile, and the final test was an assessment of brake performance from 100 mph (161 km/h).
The BMW M5 CS is lighter than its competitors — a four-seater sedan weighs only 1825 kilograms. Under the hood is a 635-horsepower (750 Nm) 4.4-liter V8. The price in the UK is 141 thousand pounds.
Mercedes-AMG E 63 S is almost 200 kilograms heavier but costs 40% cheaper — for 100 thousand pounds, the buyer will receive a sedan with a 4.0-liter V8 with 612 horsepower and a torque of 850 Nm.
The current Audi RS 6 Avant develops 600 horsepower and 800 Nm, weighs 2075 kilograms, and costs 98 thousand pounds.
At the other pole is the hybrid station wagon Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid, which weighs 540 kilograms more than BMW, and will cost 145 thousand pounds. A gasoline-electric power plant produces 700 horsepower and 850 Nm of torque.
At a distance of a quarter-mile on a wet track, the rivals were separated by 0.8 seconds. In half-mile runs, the difference between the fastest cars did not exceed half a body, and the results of the brake performance test were a surprise.
