Louisiana Tech Golf Finishes Ninth At Argent Financial Classic

Louisiana Tech Bulldogs Men’s Golf team finished ninth at the Argent Financial Classic at Squire Creek on Septemeber 10-12. UAB, Louisiana, and Southern Miss finished in a 3-way tie for first place in the team competition with 9-under. Central Arkansas led for the first two rounds but an 11-over third round had the Bears drop to 8th place.

Middle Tennessee State’s Owen Stamper won the individual competition finishing at 13-under. Stamper led after the first round but tournament runner-up Houston’s Santiago De La Fuente captured the lead in the second round. Stamper shot a 4-under in the final round to capture the title. Khavish Varadan from UAB tied De La Fuente for second place shooting 11-under

Niilo Maki-Petaj was the top Bulldog in the tournament finishing tied for 23rd shooting even par. Jake Plumb tied for 33rd finishing with 2-over. Riley Hnatyshyn completed the tourney at 39th place and finishing 3-over.

Louisiana Tech will head to Oneonta, AL for the UAB GMAC Invitational on September 24-26

Haynesville Falls In Division IV Nonselect State Championship

Oak Grove claimed their eighth state title in history and for the second year in a row against a Claiborne Parish team. Oak Grove, a 2A school, outscored the Haynesville Golden Tornado in a 62-36 championship game. The game was the sixth-highest-scoring game in the LHSAA championships. Oak Grove was the only two blemishes on the Haynesville 12-2 record.

Soccer Kick Around - Week 3

Week 3 for the local high soccer saw the Calvary Cavaliers (1-2-0) boys team start their season in the Bossier Tournament. The Cavaliers took wins over Union Parish and Minden but came up short over Northwood-SHV. Loyola still had not suffered a loss as of the end of the week and were at 7-0-2 at the end of the week. They had attempted to play in the Copa Acadiana but their game had been rained up but managed to wrangle a game against Fontainebleau. North Caddo (0-7-0) competed in two tournaments over the weekend in both the Bossier tourney and the North Desoto tourney.

High School Basketball - Week 5

Week 5 saw more tournament action around the area. The Negreet Lady Indian and Indians took top honor in the Converse tournament. The Ringgold Redskins and the Arcadia Lady Hornets won the Bienville Parish Tournament.

One thing is for sure. Northwest Louisiana will have at least one team in the state championship in New Orleans. Three teams in Class 1A and 2A wil be competing in state semifinals. Class 4A North Desoto will also be making an attempt at a return to the state championship with a matchup against Opelousas.

Soccer Kick Around - Week 1 & 2

The first couple of weeks of the soccer season began over Thanksgiving. The three local girls team has all kicked off. Loyola Lady Flyers are currently sitting at 1-1-1 after hosting their tournament. Calvary Lady Cavaliers have a 1-2-0 record starting and adding a big 7 goals against West Ouachita and had a rough Loyola tourney appearance. North Caddo is 1-1-0 after a big win over Southwood and a loss to Northwood.

High School Basketball Round Up - Week 3 & 4

Well sorry I fibbed to you and said that we wouldn’t double up weeks, but just one more time. The Thanksgiving week was not only rich with a lot of food but a lot of tournaments around the area. The Arcadia Lady Hornets captured the title at the Lakeside Tournament in Sibley. The Ringgold Redskins took the boys top honors at the Lakeside Tournament.

Calvary Lady Cavs Claim State Runner-Up at LHSAA State Swim Meet

The LHSAA State Swim Meet was held last week at the Sulphur Parks and Recreation Aquatic Center. The Calvary Lady Cavaliers finished as the state runner-up in Division IV. Episcopal School of Acadiana claimed the state championship with 265 points. Calvary finished with 233 points.

District 1 Division IV Releases Volleyball All-District

The District I Division IV all-district list was released this week. Coach Jon Casey was named Coach of the Year in the district. Casey achieved his 100th win over the past season and took the Lady Cavaliers to the State Tournament for the third consecutive year.

Six Local Teams Headed To Quarterfinals

And then there were six…it’s time for some local teams to take a turkey leg in tow to practice. Thanksgiving week is the celebration time for the LHSAA quarterfinals. Six local teams have celebrated advancing to the elite eight of each division. Outside of the 2A-A range of schools in Northwest Louisiana, only Ruston, Airline, and North Desoto remain.

The Ochsner LHSAA State Cross Country Meet was held in Natchitoches at Northwestern State University on Monday. Four individual runners’ medals were handed out for top 10 finishes. Medals are handed out to runners who finish in the top ten of their race. Three of the runners medaled last year.

Local Teams Look To Grab State Titles At Ochsner LHSAA State Swimming Meet

The culmination of the swim season begins on Wednesday morning at the Sulphur Parks and Recreation (SPAR) Recreation and Aquatic Center. Division III and IV will begin preliminaries on Wednesday and finals will be on Thursday. Division III will begin at 9:00 each day while Division IV will start at 4:00 pm.

Class B & C kicked off the basketball season over the past two weeks and the action is rolling and some interesting things are already happening across. Defending Division V Nonselect Zwolle are picking up where they left off starting out 5-0. Doyline Panthers are also undefeated at this point too. Castor Lady Tigers have been dominants so far this season.

Calvary Falls At State Volleyball Tournament

The Calvary Lady Cavaliers (23-5) reached the state tournament in Lafayette at the Cajun Dome for the third consecutive year. Before that, no team from North of Alexandria had ever reached the tournament. The Lady Cavaliers received some company up north as Ruston qualified fie their first trip to the tournament that is started.

Cedar Creek, Glenbrook, and Loyola Win Regional Cross Country Titles

The cross country season came closer to the state championships with the regional races in Division III, IV, and V. The boys and girls races were all held at Lincoln Parish Park in Ruston last Thursday. Loyola and Cedar Creek boys along with Glenbrook Girls all claimed regional titles for their teams. Claiming individual regional titles were Franklin Roemer for Loyola (Region I-III boys), Jackson Burney of Calvary Baptist (Region I-IV boys), and Ava Brown of Negreet (Region I-V girls).

The LHSAA released the 2023 playoff brackets on Sunday morning and 15 local teams covered by Under The Radar NWLA are headed to the second season. The Nonselect teams have a 28-team bracket while Select will have a 24-team bracket.

Calvary Makes Third Consecutive Trip To The LHSAA State Volleyball Tournament

The Lady Cavaliers (23-4) are making a common occurrence of a trip to Lafayette CajunDome to the LHSAA State Volleyball Tournament. Calvary kept a perfect set record at home as they swept No. 29 Delcambre 3-0 (25-8, 25-6, 25-4) in the first round and No. 13 St. Charles 3-0 (25-11, 25-16, 28-26) in the second round.
