Shreveport United Men Drop First Match; Blue Goose and Shreveport Women Continue Woes

The fourth week for Shreveport/Bossier soccer was rough as all three teams fall.  Shreveport United Men lost a close 3-2 match on the road against expansion FC Sharp Keys.  Blue Goose lost their fourth consecutive match and gained their first goal of the season.  Shreveport United women fell 3-1 on a road trip to Jackson against Mississippi Blues.  

If you haven’t been able to watch any of the teams, you will have the opportunity to watch all three teams.  Blue Goose will play on Wednesday and Saturday nights at Airline High School against Mississippi Brilla and LA Krewe, respectively.  Shreveport United men and women will play a home at Messmer field doubleheader starting at 4:00 for the women against Mississippi Blues and 7:15 for the men against Daggers CTX.

USL2

Little Rock Rangers 5, Blue Goose 1

Blue Goose dropped another match in the USL2 but not as bad as the last time they face Little Rock where they lost 7-0.  They also scored their first goal of the season.  

Little Rock struck first with a goal in the first 10 minutes.  Lance Crabtree took back-to-back goals in the 11th and 20th minutes. The Rangers took one more second-half goal with Cesar Sancho Gomez scoring in the 44th minute.  Little Rock carried a 4-0 lead into halftime.  Blue Goose snapped the three-match scoreless streak with a goal in the 57th minute with a goal by Martin Weintschke.  Little Rock added an insurance goal by Taylor Davis in the 85th minute and held on for the 5-1 win.

GCPL Women

Mississippi Blues  3, Shreveport United 1

The Shreveport United dropped their second consecutive match as they fell to the first-place Mississippi Blues.  The lone goal was scored by Brooklyn Lattier with an assist from Mary Helen Burford.

Once again the Shreveport United women were recognized on the GCPL Best XI team of the week for Matchday 3.  ULM soccer goalkeeper Emerson Roberts and Louisiana Tech’s backline Sophie Fijneman were selected.

High School Volleyball World: Week 1 & 2

The high school volleyball season has been in full gear for the past two weeks. Calvary started the season in the first two weeks going through local 5A opponents. The Lady Cavaliers then took to the road to Lafayette area to compete at the Southside Tournament. Calvary lost their first match to St. Thomas More but bounced back against the host team and Westlake. Loyola is still searching for that first win of the season as they headed to Baton Rouge to compete at the Woodlawn-Baton Rouge tournament. Many snuck a win out over 5A Pineville in the past two weeks. Junior Kiya Casey had 9 kills, 10 digs, and 2 aces. MaCaughli Hall-Wilson set the points for the Lady Cavs with 24 assists and added 2 aces. Emily Pierce was a serving machine with 7 aces and also had 7 kills and saved the plays with 5 digs. Allie Hutchings compiled 11 assists and had an ace and dig. Alexandra Campenella took 7 kills and helped at the net with a block assist. Brooklyn Morris was the third player to collect 7 kills and added a dig.
