Blue Goose SC and Shreveport United Women Come Up Short

Shreveport/Bossier City soccer came up on the wrong end of the score on each game played.  Blue Goose is still in search of the first goal of the season as they lost their first home game of the season.  Shreveport United Women traveled to Baton Rouge for an early season battle to see who would take over first place

LA Parish 2, Blue Goose 0

The local Blue Goose squad got their first game at their new field in Bossier at Airline High School’s M.D. Ray field.  The Baton Rouge LA Parish was the home spoiler.  Parish struck in the first ten minutes and Johan Arevalo scored in the 7th minute.  Arevalo struck again in the 18th minute to give LA Parish the 2-0 lead that they held onto until halftime.  That was enough for the win also.

Saturday was an early season challenge for first place at Olympia Stadium in Baton Rouge.  The two teams stayed remained scoreless through halftime. The two continued to come up short of scoring in the second half until the 84th minute when Kelsey Majors scored the lone goal of the match as Baton Rouge held on for the win.  

Matchday 2 Best XI

Two Shreveport United women were selected for the weekly list.  Khiana Roraback and Mary Helen Vanhoy were selected to the Matchday 2 Best XI. Roraback scored the lone goal in the Cajun Rush game.  Vanhoy was noticed for the backline defense.

Louisiana Tech Golf Finishes Ninth At Argent Financial Classic

Louisiana Tech Bulldogs Men’s Golf team finished ninth at the Argent Financial Classic at Squire Creek on Septemeber 10-12. UAB, Louisiana, and Southern Miss finished in a 3-way tie for first place in the team competition with 9-under. Central Arkansas led for the first two rounds but an 11-over third round had the Bears drop to 8th place.

High School Volleyball World: Week 1 & 2

The high school volleyball season has been in full gear for the past two weeks. Calvary started the season in the first two weeks going through local 5A opponents. The Lady Cavaliers then took to the road to Lafayette area to compete at the Southside Tournament. Calvary lost their first match to St. Thomas More but bounced back against the host team and Westlake. Loyola is still searching for that first win of the season as they headed to Baton Rouge to compete at the Woodlawn-Baton Rouge tournament. The Lady Flyers finished the second week with losses to Captain Shreve and Benton. North Caddo ended the second week with a winning record at 3-2. Many snuck a win out over 5A Pineville in the past two weeks. Calvary (Division IV District 1)Week 1 & 2: 5-1 Season: 5-1 Sets: 13-2 Season Sets: 13-2Calvary 3, Captain Shreve 0 (25-9, 25-11, 25-10) Powerhouse Calvary started the season with a sweep of the Captain Shreve Lady Gators. Junior Kiya Casey had 9 kills, 10 digs, and 2 aces. MaCaughli Hall-Wilson set the points for the Lady Cavs with 24 assists and added 2 aces. Emily Pierce was a serving machine with 7 aces and also had 7 kills and saved the plays with 5 digs. Allie Hutchings compiled 11 assists and had an ace and dig. Alexandra Campenella took 7 kills and helped at the net with a block assist. Brooklyn Morris was the third player to collect 7 kills and added a dig. Caroline Christler scored with 3 aces and helped with 2 digs. Addison Stevenson had 2 aces and 3 digs. The Bulldogs showed they are not afraid to face anyone. Louisiana Tech headed to Waco to take on Baylor but came back with a shutout. The Bulldogs held tight in the first half but gave up a late first-half goal to Ashley Merrill in the 44th minute. Baylor carried the 1-0 lead into the second half. Baylor added to their lead in the 56th minute with a goal from Jenna Patterson. Tyler Isgrig added another Bear goal in the 65th minute to give the Bears the 3-0 win.

Louisiana Tech had the best week of all local teams as they finished 1-0-1 for the week and combined now to 2-2-1 for the season. The Bulldogs took a win over McNeese and a high-scoring tie. Northwestern State is still looking for that first win but the trail for them has not been easy taking on SEC Mississippi State and AAC Rice Owls at home. The Lady Demons managed their first goal of the season on Sunday in their home opener. Grambling started the week with a win over ETBU, followed it with a loss to Louisiana, and ended the week with a scoreless tie against Lamar. LSUS men and women’s stay was OK in Oklahoma over the week. The two split apart with the women defeating Southwestern Christian and falling to No. 23 USAO. LSUS Men also got a taste of a ranked opponent in No. 6 Mid-American and came up short but brought a tie home against USAO. Centenary will hit the pitch next week for their first matches of the season.

Just Call Him General Terrance James

Terrance James ruled the basketball court in Class C as a Gibsland-Coleman Bulldog. Now he will become an LSU-Alexandria General. James was the 2023 Class C Most Valuable Player and was also on the 2022 Class C All-State First Team. James and the Bulldogs won the Class C 2022 State Championship and reached Marsh Madness again in 2023. The Bulldogs took the defending Division V Non-Select state champions Zwolle Hawks to double overtime where James was called on a controversial technical foul after a dunk which caused him to foul out. James did not let that stymie his swagger as went on to play in six all-star games.
