Shreveport Summer Semi-Pro Soccer Kicks Off Season

It’s time for semi-pro soccer in the Shreveport/Bossier area.  GCPL (Gulf Coast Premier League) will feature Shreveport United Men and Women’s Teams playing home matches once again at Loyola’s Messmer Field.   USL Blue Goose FC will jump into their second year at a new home at M.D. Ray Field at Airline High School in Bossier City.

Blue Goose FC's road trip has not been so kind to them as they opened on May 6 in Lafayette against LA Krewe and traveled to Little Rock to face the Little Rock Rangers.  Blue Goose will get their first home game on May 20 against Baton Rouge-based LA Parish

LA Krewe 11, Blue Goose FC 0

Krewe’s Quesi Weston scored the first goal in the 13th minute.   Krewe struck again late in the first half with another goal in the 41st minute from Matheus Fulani Barrozo.   Ricardo Caliman added one more before halftime for LA Krewe to have a 3-0 lead.  Weston completed his hat trick in the 52nd minute and 56th minute to give the 5-0 lead.   The show then became the Pol Mur show as he scored in the 59th, 71st, 79th, and 82nd minute to give Krewe their second hat trick of the game and the 9-0 lead.  Uros Rosic scored for Krewe in the 88th minute.  Weston added a fourth goal for the game in the 90th minute to get the 11-0 win.  

Little Rock Rangers 7, Blue Goose FC 0

The Blue Goose suffered another big loss on the road as they fell 7-0 to the Little Rock Rangers.  Ethan Blake struck fast for the Rangers as he scored two goals in the first ten minutes.   Nicholas Doyle added another Little Rock goal in the 22nd minute.   A minute later LIndokuhle Zane struck to continue the nightmare first half for Blue Goose. Little Rock took a. 4-0 lead into halftime.  Little Rock picked up where they left off in the second half.  Christian Chavez scored in the 58th minute.   Masood Porsa netted a goal in the 78th minute.  Cesar Sancho Gomez finished up the scoring for the Rangers in the 85th minute

All that was needed was one goal by Khiana Roraback with an assist from Natalie Bianco to give the Shreveport United Women their first win of the season on the road in Lafayette.   Shreveport United will be on the road against Baton Rouge United on Saturday, May 20 at 4 pm.

Louisiana Tech Golf Finishes Ninth At Argent Financial Classic

Louisiana Tech Bulldogs Men’s Golf team finished ninth at the Argent Financial Classic at Squire Creek on Septemeber 10-12. UAB, Louisiana, and Southern Miss finished in a 3-way tie for first place in the team competition with 9-under. High School Volleyball World: Week 1 & 2

The high school volleyball season has been in full gear for the past two weeks. Calvary started the season in the first two weeks going through local 5A opponents. The Lady Cavaliers then took to the road to Lafayette area to compete at the Southside Tournament. Calvary lost their first match to St. Thomas More but bounced back against the host team and Westlake. Loyola is still searching for that first win of the season as they headed to Baton Rouge to compete at the Woodlawn-Baton Rouge tournament. The Lady Flyers finished the second week with losses to Captain Shreve and Benton. North Caddo ended the second week with a winning record at 3-2. Many snuck a win out over 5A Pineville in the past two weeks. Calvary (Division IV District 1)Week 1 & 2: 5-1 Season: 5-1 Sets: 13-2 Season Sets: 13-2Calvary 3, Captain Shreve 0 (25-9, 25-11, 25-10) Powerhouse Calvary started the season with a sweep of the Captain Shreve Lady Gators. Junior Kiya Casey had 9 kills, 10 digs, and 2 aces. MaCaughli Hall-Wilson set the points for the Lady Cavs with 24 assists and added 2 aces. Emily Pierce was a serving machine with 7 aces and also had 7 kills and saved the plays with 5 digs. Allie Hutchings compiled 11 assists and had an ace and dig. Alexandra Campenella took 7 kills and helped at the net with a block assist. Brooklyn Morris was the third player to collect 7 kills and added a dig. The Bulldogs held tight in the first half but gave up a late first-half goal to Ashley Merrill in the 44th minute. Baylor carried the 1-0 lead into the second half. Baylor added to their lead in the 56th minute with a goal from Jenna Patterson. Tyler Isgrig added another Bear goal in the 65th minute to give the Bears the 3-0 win.

NWLA COLLEGE FOOTBALL WEEK 1: Louisiana Tech Escapes FIU In Home Opener

The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs (1-0) opened the season squeaking by the FIU Panthers (0-1) at Joe Aillet Stadium on Saturday night. The home opener saw the start of new Bulldog quarterback Hank Bachmeier who passed 33 for 44 for 333 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Smoke Harris reached the end zone once for the Bulldogs and had 11 receptions for 155 yards rushing.

College Soccer Week 2:  Louisiana Tech Has Winning Week, NSU Still Looking For First Win; Grambling

Louisiana Tech had the best week of all local teams as they finished 1-0-1 for the week and combined now to 2-2-1 for the season. The Bulldogs took a win over McNeese and a high-scoring tie. Northwestern State is still looking for that first win but the trail for them has not been easy taking on SEC Mississippi State and AAC Rice Owls at home. The Lady Demons managed their first goal of the season on Sunday in their home opener. Grambling started the week with a win over ETBU, followed it with a loss to Louisiana, and ended the week with a scoreless tie against Lamar. LSUS men and women’s stay was OK in Oklahoma over the week. The two split apart with the women defeating Southwestern Christian and falling to No. 23 USAO. LSUS Men also got a taste of a ranked opponent in No. 6 Mid-American and came up short but brought a tie home against USAO. Centenary will hit the pitch next week for their first matches of the season.

Just Call Him General Terrance James

Terrance James ruled the basketball court in Class C as a Gibsland-Coleman Bulldog. Now he will become an LSU-Alexandria General. James was the 2023 Class C Most Valuable Player and was also on the 2022 Class C All-State First Team. James and the Bulldogs won the Class C 2022 State Championship and reached Marsh Madness again in 2023. The Bulldogs took the defending Division V Non-Select state champions Zwolle Hawks to double overtime where James was called on a controversial technical foul after a dunk which caused him to foul out. James did not let that stymie his swagger as went on to play in six all-star games.
