Under the Radar NWLA not only likes to celebrate the achievements and accomplishments on the field of play but also in the classroom. Each sports season the LHSAA releases the All-Academic Composite Team and the All-Academic Class Team. The following are the All-Academic awards for the year..

According to the LHSAA to qualify on the All-Academic Composite Team, a student-athlete's six-semester GPA must have an unweighted 4.00. These students cannot have a "B" on their transcript. They are honored at the LHSAA state events. Sixty student-athletes from the Under The Radar NWLA coverage area qualified for this elite honor over the year.

Louisiana Tech Golf Finishes Ninth At Argent Financial Classic

Louisiana Tech Bulldogs Men’s Golf team finished ninth at the Argent Financial Classic at Squire Creek on Septemeber 10-12. UAB, Louisiana, and Southern Miss finished in a 3-way tie for first place in the team competition with 9-under. Central Arkansas led for the first two rounds but an 11-over third round had the Bears drop to 8th place.

High School Volleyball World: Week 1 & 2

The high school volleyball season has been in full gear for the past two weeks. Calvary started the season in the first two weeks going through local 5A opponents. The Lady Cavaliers then took to the road to Lafayette area to compete at the Southside Tournament. Calvary lost their first match to St. Thomas More but bounced back against the host team and Westlake. Loyola is still searching for that first win of the season as they headed to Baton Rouge to compete at the Woodlawn-Baton Rouge tournament. The Lady Flyers finished the second week with losses to Captain Shreve and Benton. North Caddo ended the second week with a winning record at 3-2. Many snuck a win out over 5A Pineville in the past two weeks. Calvary (Division IV District 1)Week 1 & 2: 5-1 Season: 5-1 Sets: 13-2 Season Sets: 13-2Calvary 3, Captain Shreve 0 (25-9, 25-11, 25-10) Powerhouse Calvary started the season with a sweep of the Captain Shreve Lady Gators. Junior Kiya Casey had 9 kills, 10 digs, and 2 aces. MaCaughli Hall-Wilson set the points for the Lady Cavs with 24 assists and added 2 aces. Emily Pierce was a serving machine with 7 aces and also had 7 kills and saved the plays with 5 digs. Allie Hutchings compiled 11 assists and had an ace and dig. Alexandra Campenella took 7 kills and helped at the net with a block assist. Brooklyn Morris was the third player to collect 7 kills and added a dig. Caroline Christler scored with 3 aces and helped with 2 digs. Addison Stevenson had 2 aces and 3 digs. Calvary 3, Byrd 0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-13) Calvary took on their second consecutive 5A opponent and pulled off another sweep. Kiya Casey accumulated 10 kills, 2 aces, 6 digs, and 3 assists. College Soccer Week 3

The Bulldogs showed they are not afraid to face anyone. Louisiana Tech headed to Waco to take on Baylor but came back with a shutout. The Bulldogs held tight in the first half but gave up a late first-half goal to Ashley Merrill in the 44th minute. Baylor carried the 1-0 lead into the second half. Baylor added to their lead in the 56th minute with a goal from Jenna Patterson. Tyler Isgrig added another Bear goal in the 65th minute to give the Bears the 3-0 win.

College Volleyball Week 2: Centenary Kicks Off Season, LA Tech and Grambling Get Wins

Volleyball Week 2 started early in Northwest Louisiana as we had a little Los Angeles come to Natchitoches to face the Lady Demons. The PAC-12 foe didn’t push over Northwestern State. Grambling had a home match win over ULM on Tuesday. All teams were tournament-bound for the weekend. Centenary started its season by hosting the Cajun Country Classic. Grambling headed to Abilene, Texas to compete in the Abilene Christian Classic. Northwestern State flew across the country to battle in the Washington State Cougar Classic. Louisiana Tech also headed to Texas to compete in the UT-Arlington Classic.

All three of the local Northwest Louisiana took the show on the road and came up short. Louisiana Tech headed to Dallas to face SMU. Northwestern State Demons headed down I-49 to face state team Louisiana Ragin Cajuns. Grambling flew across the country to Harrison, New Jersey to take on Hampton University Pirates in the Brick City Classic.

NWLA COLLEGE FOOTBALL WEEK 1: Louisiana Tech Escapes FIU In Home Opener

The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs (1-0) opened the season squeaking by the FIU Panthers (0-1) at Joe Aillet Stadium on Saturday night. The home opener saw the start of new Bulldog quarterback Hank Bachmeier who passed 33 for 44 for 333 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Smoke Harris reached the end zone once for the Bulldogs and had 11 receptions for 155 yards rushing.

College Soccer Week 2: Louisiana Tech Has Winning Week, NSU Still Looking For First Win; Grambling

Louisiana Tech had the best week of all local teams as they finished 1-0-1 for the week and combined now to 2-2-1 for the season. The Bulldogs took a win over McNeese and a high-scoring tie. Northwestern State is still looking for that first win but the trail for them has not been easy taking on SEC Mississippi State and AAC Rice Owls at home. The Lady Demons managed their first goal of the season on Sunday in their home opener. Grambling started the week with a win over ETBU, followed it with a loss to Louisiana, and ended the week with a scoreless tie against Lamar. LSUS men and women’s stay was OK in Oklahoma over the week. The two split apart with the women defeating Southwestern Christian and falling to No. 23 USAO. LSUS Men also got a taste of a ranked opponent in No. 6 Mid-American and came up short but brought a tie home against USAO. Centenary will hit the pitch next week for their first matches of the season.

Just Call Him General Terrance James

Terrance James ruled the basketball court in Class C as a Gibsland-Coleman Bulldog. Now he will become an LSU-Alexandria General. James was the 2023 Class C Most Valuable Player and was also on the 2022 Class C All-State First Team. James and the Bulldogs won the Class C 2022 State Championship and reached Marsh Madness again in 2023. The Bulldogs took the defending Division V Non-Select state champions Zwolle Hawks to double overtime where James was called on a controversial technical foul after a dunk which caused him to foul out. James did not let that stymie his swagger as went on to play in six all-star games.

The Shreveport United men were working on the comeback of the 2023 GCPL as they were still in the hunt for the final Western Conference playoff spot. The challenge was to knock off the first-place Central Texas Lobos who had not lost a match all season and then force a must-win against Daggers CTX less than 24 hours later.
