Shreveport Looking To Extinguish Fire At Home

The defending TBL champion Shreveport Mavericks have done business as usual for the season running through the Central Conference opponents like business as usual to a 15-3 record.  They have one pesky opponent that won’t conform.  In fact, it’s the opponent who has added the three to the loss column for the Mavs, the Potawatomi Fire.  The Fire is currently sitting atop the Central Conference with a 15-2 game and a half-game lead over the second-place Shreveport.  

Round four will take place on Thursday night at the Gold Dome where the top two in the Central Conference will meet.  The first Gold Dome experience was the first game of the season and the Fire burned the Mavericks 128-89 Mb bj. The closest the Mavericks have gotten was 19 points. The bybnrumfn

The Mavericks are rolling into the Gold Dome on a four-game winning streak and look to not extend that streak to five after Thursday night.   

The Mavericks this season are led once again by Paul Parks who is tenth in the TBL averaging 26.6 points per game.  The second-year Maverick Paul Meyers is leading the team with 5.7 assists per game and 1.9 steals per game.   Jevonlean Hedgeman who transferred from the Houston Push is banging the boards for 7.5 rebounds per game.  

Shreveport relies on the three-point shot for a good portion of their points.  The Mavericks are currently No. 3 in the TBL making 13.5 per game with 3-pointers made and No. 2 in 3-pointers shot with 35.8 per game.  The Mavericks have four players who shoot over 40% behind the 3-point arc and have played at least 10 games.  Paul Parks is shooting 44.3% averaging about 13 three-point shots per game. 

The Mavericks’ schedule is heavily favored for them also as they will play 5 of their last 6 games in Shreveport.  The Mavericks are currently 6-1 at home with the only blemish you guessed it… Potawatomi.  

Round 4 with the Fire will be at the Gold Dome on Thursday at 7:05 pm.

High School Volleyball World: Week 1 & 2

The Lady Cavaliers then took to the road to Lafayette area to compete at the Southside Tournament. Calvary lost their first match to St. Thomas More but bounced back against the host team and Westlake. The Lady Flyers finished the second week with losses to Captain Shreve and Benton. North Caddo ended the second week with a winning record at 3-2. Many snuck a win out over 5A Pineville in the past two weeks. Emily Pierce was a serving machine with 7 aces and also had 7 kills and saved the plays with 5 digs. Allie Hutchings compiled 11 assists and had an ace and dig. Alexandra Campenella took 7 kills and helped at the net with a block assist. Brooklyn Morris was the third player to collect 7 kills and added a dig. The Bulldogs showed they are not afraid to face anyone. Louisiana Tech headed to Waco to take on Baylor but came back with a shutout. The Bulldogs held tight in the first half but gave up a late first-half goal to Ashley Merrill in the 44th minute. Baylor carried the 1-0 lead into the second half. Baylor added to their lead in the 56th minute with a goal from Jenna Patterson. Tyler Isgrig added another Bear goal in the 65th minute to give the Bears the 3-0 win.

College Soccer Week 2:  Louisiana Tech Has Winning Week, NSU Still Looking For First Win; Grambling

Louisiana Tech had the best week of all local teams as they finished 1-0-1 for the week and combined now to 2-2-1 for the season. The Bulldogs took a win over McNeese and a high-scoring tie. Northwestern State is still looking for that first win but the trail for them has not been easy taking on SEC Mississippi State and AAC Rice Owls at home. The Lady Demons managed their first goal of the season on Sunday in their home opener. Grambling started the week with a win over ETBU, followed it with a loss to Louisiana, and ended the week with a scoreless tie against Lamar. LSUS men and women’s stay was OK in Oklahoma over the week. The two split apart with the women defeating Southwestern Christian and falling to No. 23 USAO. LSUS Men also got a taste of a ranked opponent in No. 6 Mid-American and came up short but brought a tie home against USAO. Centenary will hit the pitch next week for their first matches of the season.

Just Call Him General Terrance James

Terrance James ruled the basketball court in Class C as a Gibsland-Coleman Bulldog. Now he will become an LSU-Alexandria General. James was the 2023 Class C Most Valuable Player and was also on the 2022 Class C All-State First Team. James and the Bulldogs won the Class C 2022 State Championship and reached Marsh Madness again in 2023. The Bulldogs took the defending Division V Non-Select state champions Zwolle Hawks to double overtime where James was called on a controversial technical foul after a dunk which caused him to foul out. James did not let that stymie his swagger as went on to play in six all-star games.

Shreveport United Men Weekend Playoff Run; Blue Goose Blasted By Texas United

The Shreveport United men were working on the comeback of the 2023 GCPL as they were still in the hunt for the final Western Conference playoff spot. The challenge was to knock off the first-place Central Texas Lobos who had not lost a match all season and then force a must-win against Daggers CTX less than 24 hours later.
