Calvary and Loyola Advance To Second Round in Division IV Playoffs

District 1 Division IV boasted that all six teams qualified for the playoffs. Only two remain after the completion of the first round of the playoffs.

Calvary easily handled the No. 29 seeded International School of New Orleans (0-8) in 3-0 sets. Calvary won 25-1, 25-7, 25-4. Calvary will now hosts Gretna-based No. 13 Thomas Jefferson (18-26) Lady Jaguars. Thomas Jefferson eliminated No. 20 Mentorship Academy 3-0 (25-16, 25-14, 26-24).

No. 9 Loyola (16-18) drew the Delcambre for the second consecutive year. And for the second consecutive year, the Loyola Lady Flyers advanced to the second round. Loyola swept Delcambre 3-0 (25-12, 25-12, 25-9) on Wednesday afternoon. Delcambre wasn’t giving much room in the first set as they stayed close to 7-7 until Emma Sipes service. Sipes recorded two aces along with a block from Madison Turner and Abbie Anderson kill. Loyola rattled off 9-0 run to push the lead to 16-7. The Lady Flyers kept pace to 20-12. Taylor Nash pushed an angled kill following three aces during her service. Loyola won the first set 25-12. Loyola had multiple 4-0 runs in the second set to build the lead eventually out of the Lady Panthers grasp. Nash collected 4 kills and 2 aces during the second set. Anderson added another 3 kills and an ace. Loyola took a 2-0 lead with the 25-12 set win. The Lady Flyers started early in the third set as Makayla Horton, Anderson, and Nash collect kills on the 5-0 run to 6-1. Delcambre closed the gap to 9-6. McCullough Lawson service ushered in a 9-0 run behind 4 aces and Anderson’s 2 kills. Loyola led 18-6. Nash’s service sent the Lady Flyers on another 6-0 run and the 25-9 win to send them to the second round. “I think we played really well,” Coach Laurie Woolbert said. “It wasn’t perfect and most games aren’t. We made our mistakes and we came back. We got ourselves together and played really well throughout the rest of the match.”. Loyola will now have a road trip on Thursday afternoon to No. 8 St. Charles Comets in LaPlace. St. Charles eliminated fellow district team Red River 3-0 (25-9, 25-9, 25-6) on Wednesday afternoon.

No. 21 North Caddo was eliminated on Wednesday afternoon as No. 12 Patterson swept the Lady Titans 3-0 (25-7, 25-13, 25-15)

Mansfield and Many were eliminated on Tuesday afternoon as previously reported.
