Calvary became the Division IV District 1 champ this week with wins over Loyola, Mansfield, and Many. The Lady Cavaliers finished 5-0 in the district and were 15-0 on sets record. This was the third consecutive district title for Calvary and the first Division IV district title.

Looking at the power ranking as of October 26. Calvary is currently sitting at No. 4 which will give the Lady Cavaliers back-to-back home matches. Win both and they will have to worry about travel arrangements to Lafayette. Loyola is at No. 10 which could guarantee at least a first-round playoff game. Many is riding the border of a home or away first-round game. North Caddo will be on the road at No. 23. If the rankings hold out, their road trip would not be too far because it could be to Loyola. Mansfield’s two recent wins have pushed them up to No. 31 but the 20-game minimum is going to catch them and push them back down. Red River is right at the edge at No. 33 but the reshuffling of the non-20 game teams will more than likely push them into a playoff spot. Magnolia SOE season will end this upcoming week.

Wichita Skykings Spoil Home Finale For Mavericks

The Wichita Skykings didn’t get the memo that Shreveport Mavericks were in the first place and needed a win for a chance at the top seed. The upstart Skykings took the final home regular season homestand for the Mavericks before a big crowd at the Centenary Gold Dome on Sunday afternoon. Wichita eeked out a 128-124 win over Shreveport. The Skykings dominated the boards outrebounding Shreveport 54-36. Wichita snagged 37 defensive rebounds to the Maverick's 13 offensive rebounds. A battle ensued on the other end with the Mavericks having 23 defensive rebounds to the Skykings 15 offensive rebounds.

Blue Goose SC and Shreveport United Women Come Up Short

Shreveport/Bossier City soccer came up on the wrong end of the score on each game played. Blue Goose is still in search of the first goal of the season as they lost their first home game of the season. Shreveport United Women traveled to Baton Rouge for an early season battle to see who would take over first place.

Mavericks Blaze Way Into First Place

The Shreveport Mavericks finally got the formula to get past the Potawatomi Fire on the fourth try and moved into first place. The goal now is to maintain in the final two games of the TBL regular season to capture the top seed in the Central Conference playoffs. The Mavericks (19-3) sit atop the conference by a game. The only losses by the Mavericks this season come from Potawatomi and they are done with them for the season unless they meet in the playoffs.

Shreveport Summer Semi-Pro Soccer Kicks Off Season

It’s time for semi-pro soccer in the Shreveport/Bossier area. GCPL (Gulf Coast Premier League) will feature Shreveport United Men and Women’s Teams playing home matches once again at Loyola’s Messmer Field. USL Blue Goose FC will jump into their second year at a new home at M.D. Ray Field at Airline High School in Bossier City.

Warriors Need Extra Time To End Mudbugs Season

The Shreveport Mudbugs season ended on Friday night as the Oklahoma Warriors swept at George’s Pond with a double overtime 2-1 win, The Shreveport Mudbugs season ended as the top team in the NAHL scored with a Joey Delgreco goal with 13:15 remaining in the second extra frame. The Mudbugs outshot Oklahoma 45-36 overall in the game. Mudbug’s netminder Simon Bucheler had 34 saves before the 2500-plus in attendance. Neither team scored on power play opportunities. Shreveport was 0 for 2 on power plays while Oklahoma was 0 for 4.

Weather Plays Havoc At State Baseball Tournament; All Four Local Teams Headed Home

A walk-off single by Pitkin will send them to their 22nd state championship appearance and send the No. 7 Weston Wolves (17-15) back to Jackson Parish. After back-to-back appearances in the quarterfinals, this was Weston’s first appearance in the semifinals in over 20 years.

Shreveport Looking To Extinguish Fire At Home

The defending TBL champion Shreveport Mavericks have done business as usual for the season running through the Central Conference opponents like business as usual to a 15-3 record. They have one pesky opponent that won’t conform. In fact, it’s the opponent who has added the three to the loss column for the Mavs, the Potawatomi Fire. The Fire is currently sitting atop the Central Conference with a 15-2 game and a half-game lead over the second-place Shreveport.

Mudbugs On Edge of Elimination

After the drama-filled series in the South Division semifinals with Lone Star Brahmas where every episode (game) had an emotional twist and turn, the Shreveport Mudbugs fell flat in the first two games of the South Division finals in games one and two in Oklahoma City against the Oklahoma Warriors.  Granted, though, the Oklahoma Warriorrs ended the regular season with the best record overall in the NAHL.  The Warriors also had easily taken care of the Amarillo Wranglers and had taken a few extra days more rest than Shreveport,  Not an excuse though.  If hockey only had two periods, Shreveport would have been fine.  They matched Oklahoma 2-2.  Unfortunately, hockey games have three periods and that is where the difference came.  Oklahoma outscored Shreveport 7-0 in the final period.   Was it fatigue from the Lone Star series?  Was it just outplayed by the Warriors?  Who knows? The reality is that Shreveport has to sweep the home series this weekend and then take care of business in Oklahoma City to get back to Blaine.

Four Local Teams Headed To Ochsner LHSAA State Baseball Tournament

Four local teams advanced to their respective semifinals and qualified for a trip to Sulphur to compete in the LHSAA Baseball Tournament which will be held May 9-13. The Logansport Tigers were the first to punch their ticket to Sulphur on Wednesday afternoon with a 9-6 win over No. 7 Delcambre. The Tigers had to come back three times to overcome the pesky Panthers. Delcambre took the early 1-0 lead in the top half of the first inning. Logansport answered with a 2-run bottom half. Delcambre added runs in the second and third inning to take the 4-2 lead. The Tigers scored 4 in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead in the game at 6-4. Delcambre chipped away at the Tigers’ lead with runs in the fifth and sixth to eventually tie at 6-6. Logansport had enough and put in three runs in the bottom of the sixth to secure their trip to Sulphur. Hayden Rolfe went 1 for 2 including a double and 3 RBIs. Tyler Binning batted 2 for 3. Jace Thompson went 1 for 3 with 2 RBIs and picked up the win pitching. The Tigers will have back-to-back years that have made it to Sulphur. The No. 2 Tigers will face No. 3 DeQuincy on Tuesday at 5 pm.
