The cross country season continued last weekend as local teams competed in two meets.
2022 Warhawk Invitational
The Glenbrook Apache cross country team was the only northwest Louisiana school to compete in the ULM Invitational in Monroe on Saturday.
Glenbrook girls varsity carried a young squad of five and finished 5th place in the team competition. Freshman Mattison Fowler was the top Apache runner finishing 22nd with a time of 26:32.93. Eight grader Laurie Kilgore had a top 30 finish in 26th with 27:18.65.
Glenbrook boys varsity only had three compete so they didn’t have enough to compete for a team title. Carson Powell was the top Apache runner finishing 38th with a time of 23:20.79.
Six local schools headed to Quitman last Saturday for the Quitman Invitational. Ruston won both the boys' and girls' competitions. The Bearkats boys grabbed the top 5 finishes in the boys. The Lady Bearkats took the top 4 places in the girls' division. Parker McKaskle took the boys' top honor with a time of 16:11. Thomas Rogers, Cole Maestrini, Landon Byrd, and Taylor Roller all followed close behind within 22 seconds of first. Parker Nations took the girls' title with a time of 19:22.
Cedar Creek Cougars and Lady Cougars finished second in the teams competition. Myles Carpenter was the top Cougar runner finishing 6th in 17:32. In 10th place Ethan McCarthy finished in 18:43. Anderson Maxwell completed the race in 14th. Connor Johnson and Hayes Bridges rounded out the Cougar scoring with 15th and 17th place finishes. On the Lady Cougars side, Caroline James was the top Lady Cougar and finished 5th overall with a time of 21:17. Taylor Ramsey was on James’s heels in 6th in 21:28. Anna Grace Lee was the third Cougar to cross the finish line in 8th overall. Cat McAdams finished in 23:36 and 13th overall. Julianne Ensminger rounded the Lady Cougars scoring with a 15th overall.
Choudrant Aggies and Lady Aggies took third place finishes in the teams competition. Camryn Rhodes was the top Lady Aggie runner finishing 9th in 22:24. Heather Murphey (12th) and Tanya Mina (16th) each had top 20 finishes overall. Kadence Nugent finished in 21st. Abby Frazier rounded the top 5 Lady Aggies in 24th place. The boys' varsity team also finished third. Hagen Davis was the top Choudrant runner and finished 13th with a time of 19:11. Owen Watson also had a top 20 finish in 18th. Jack Grace finished in 25th in 21:16. Ren Stephens and Wade Watson rounded out the Choudrant boys.
Castor boys and girls varsity placed fourth. Brenden Cox and Nash Warren finished within 3 seconds of each other and took 28th and 29th, respectively. Hayden Carmouche came in 32nd just a little over a minute later than his teammates. Talyn Layfield and Seth Pickett rounded out the Tigers. On the Lady Tiger side, Kailey Ann Shirley finished 14th in 24:10 as the first team runner. A group of Lady Tigers finished closely as Anna Jones (26th), Autumn Watson (27th), Hayleigh Johnson (29th), and Avery Johnston (30th) all finished within a minute of each other.
Weston boys finished fifth in teams. Daniel Albert finished 44th in 25:18 as the top of the Wolves. Dave Shirley was the second Weston runner in 47th. Tyler Pardue (51st), Beaux Oliver (52nd), and Jude Otwell (53rd) scored for the Weston team. The Weston Lady Wolves carried three runners to the race. Brianna Williamson (33rd), Betty McCarty (34th), and Ariana Roberts (36th) all competed.
Simsboro took a few boys and girls varsity to Quitman. Tristan Delaney finished 16th as the top Tiger in 19:29. Cheyenne Delaney (35th) competed on behalf of the Lady Tigers.
The host school, Quitman, had three boys varsity runners. Gage Horton finished in 26th place in 21:08. Chance Chaplain took 33rd and Jayden Harts finished in 39th.
Jonesboro-Hodge was represented by Kadarien Thompson.
