The defending TBL champion Shreveport Mavericks finished second in the Central Conference in the five team playoffs. The Shreveport Mavericks will be in the Central Conference facing the No. 3 seeded Wichita Skykings. The Skykings stole the final regular home season from the Mavericks.

The upstart Skykings took the final home regular season homestand for the Mavericks before a big crowd at the Centenary Gold Dome on Sunday afternoon. Wichita eeked out a 128-124 win over Shreveport. The Skykings dominated the boards outrebounding Shreveport 54-36. Wichita snagged 37 defensive rebounds to the Maverick's 13 offensive rebounds. A battle ensued on the other end with the Mavericks having 23 defensive rebounds to the Skykings 15 offensive rebounds.

Shreveport United Women traveled to Baton Rouge for an early season battle to see who would take over first place.

The Shreveport Mavericks finally got the formula to get past the Potawatomi Fire on the fourth try and moved into first place. The goal now is to maintain in the final two games of the TBL regular season to capture the top seed in the Central Conference playoffs. The Mavericks (19-3) sit atop the conference by a game. The only losses by the Mavericks this season come from Potawatomi and they are done with them for the season unless they meet in the playoffs.

The Shreveport Mudbugs season ended on Friday night as the Oklahoma Warriors swept at George’s Pond with a double overtime 2-1 win, The Shreveport Mudbugs season ended as the top team in the NAHL scored with a Joey Delgreco goal with 13:15 remaining in the second extra frame. The Mudbugs outshot Oklahoma 45-36 overall in the game. Mudbug’s netminder Simon Bucheler had 34 saves before the 2500-plus in attendance. Neither team scored on power play opportunities. Shreveport was 0 for 2 on power plays while Oklahoma was 0 for 4.

They have one pesky opponent that won’t conform. In fact, it’s the opponent who has added the three to the loss column for the Mavs, the Potawatomi Fire. The Fire is currently sitting atop the Central Conference with a 15-2 game and a half-game lead over the second-place Shreveport.

After the drama-filled series in the South Division semifinals with Lone Star Brahmas where every episode (game) had an emotional twist and turn, the Shreveport Mudbugs fell flat in the first two games of the South Division finals in games one and two in Oklahoma City against the Oklahoma Warriors. Granted, though, the Oklahoma Warriorrs ended the regular season with the best record overall in the NAHL. The Warriors also had easily taken care of the Amarillo Wranglers and had taken a few extra days more rest than Shreveport, Not an excuse though. If hockey only had two periods, Shreveport would have been fine. They matched Oklahoma 2-2. Unfortunately, hockey games have three periods and that is where the difference came. Oklahoma outscored Shreveport 7-0 in the final period. Was it fatigue from the Lone Star series? Was it just outplayed by the Warriors? Who knows? The reality is that Shreveport has to sweep the home series this weekend and then take care of business in Oklahoma City to get back to Blaine.
