The Museum of Science & History (MoSH), is a collection of historic, educational and cultural attractions maintained by Memphis Museums, Inc. The collection includes the Pink Palace Mansion, the Giant Screen Theater, the Sharpe Planetarium, Lichterman Nature Center, and the historic Mallory-Neely and Magevney Houses. Here's what's going on this weekend!

Memphis Modern Market at MoSH

Friday, September 3rd through Sunday, September 5th - Pink Palace Museum

Cost: Free

Hosted by the Museum of Science & History at the Pink Palace, the Memphis Modern Market is part of a 3-month series of weekend-long local maker’s markets being held in the lobby, mezzanine, and Bodine Exhibit Hall on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Shop and explore the work of local artists, vintage sellers, and boutiques from the Memphis area. The hours for the market are as follows:

  • Friday 5pm - 8pm -- Preview Shop
  • Saturday 10:30am - 5pm
  • Sunday 12 noon - 5pm

Laser Shows in The Planetarium

Fridays in September, starting at 7:00 pm - Autozone Dome Planetarium

Cost: $10 ($1 discount for members)

Every Friday during the month of September, you can "see" the music of legendary rock artists Elton John, Queen, and David Bowie. Listen to the music as laser lights dance across the Big Screen in the Planetarium. This show is not recommended for children. Tickets must be purchase online, and the box office will not be open the night of the show. Buy tickets here. Show times are listed below. You should arrive at least 15 minutes before show time, there is no entry after the show begins.

  • 7:00 PM - Elton John
  • 8:30 PM - Queen
  • 10:00 PM  - David Bowie

Saturday Morning Nature Talk & Walk Series

Saturday, September 4th @ 9:00 am until 10:30 am - Lichterman Nature Center

Cost: $10

It's all about Reptiles on Saturday morning at the Lichterman Nature Center. First, you'll learn fun and interesting facts about turtles, snakes, lizards, and other reptiles from a nature expert. Then you'll take a guided hike to explore the trails of the nature center to try and spot some of these cold-blooded creatures! Purchase your tickets here.

Gallery Activities & Demonstrations

Saturday, September 4th & Sunday, September 5th @ 12:30 pm & 1:30 pm - Pink Palace

Cost: Free with admission

The Museum of Science and History at the Pink Palace is hosting fun and educational gallery activities and demonstrations on Saturday and Sunday afternoon. There's always something new to learn at the Pink Palace!

  • 12:30 pm:  Educational demonstrations in the natural history gallery. Demonstrations will include a rotation of topics including predator and prey, rocks and minerals, dinosaurs, and Weddell seals.
  • 1:30 pm:  Make & Take activities will focus on a different letter of the STEAM acronym each month: Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics.

Movies at the 3D Giant Theater

Cost: $10 adults, $9 seniors, $8 children ages 3-12 - Pink Palace

Shows at the Sharpe Planetarium

Cost: $8 adults, $7 seniors, $6 children ages 3-12

After each presentation there will be a short "star talk" using the Planetarium's digital database to show what is going on in the sky over the Mid-South, recent astronomical news, and respond to questions from the audience. Click here to purchase tickets online.
