Hurricane Ian is currently hitting Florida and striking the coast of the state in a dangerous display. Apparently, there is a man in Deltona, Florida who did not get the message because this seventy-two-year-old decided that this hurricane was the perfect time for him to go outside and drain his pool. Investigators believe that the elderly man was using a hose in order to drain the water from his pool down a hill into a thirty-foot wide canal. This was a bad idea to do during this particular storm since the incline of the canal was steep and pretty slippery due to the heavy rain caused by the hurricane.
The man had a wife who called deputies to their home around one o'clock a.m. since her husband did not return home. First responders came and first found the man's flashlight. Then, they found the man who was in the canal unresponsive. The man was taken to the hospital where doctors tried their best to resuscitate the man, but it was no use. The man was declared dead in the hospital. Even now, with Hurricane Ian being downgraded to a tropical storm, Ian is still a very dangerous force of nature that people should be worried about.
Hopefully, this man's death is not completely in vain. It might remind people to take caution during emergencies and that you should only venture out if you absolutely have to. When it comes to basic tasks like draining a pool, that stuff can wait until the emergency has passed!
