Popeyes Restaurant Permanently Closes - Winter Park, Florida Location Shuttering

Ty D.

A Popeyes Restaurant in Winter Park, Florida closes permanently. Loyal customers are feeling disappointed.

This is how Orlando Weekly covered the restaurant's closing,

"Winter Park's Orlando Avenue Popeye's has closed permanently, pushed out of the so-called "Chicken Strip" that it helped to create. The Popeye's at the corner of S. Orlando Ave and W. Fairbanks Ave. was an old-timer amid a rush of trendy fast food chicken chains. Drunks, chefs and the broke and hungry still knew that it served some of the best cheap chicken in  town, but it couldn't keep up with newcomers like Guy Fieri's Chicken Guy!, PDQ and the nearby opening of Chick'nCone. Rumor has it that the lease ended and Popeye's ownership were seeking a move closer to UCF."

As of yet, there is no clear reason why the restaurant closed. It seems there are internal reasons but we can not know for sure until there is an update from restaurant management. Popeyes restaurants are known to close just as suddenly as they open, so it's not out of the ordinary for the restaurant franchise to see a location closing.

The Story of Popeyes

Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen was created 50 years ago in New Orleans. Here is how Popeyes tells its own story, "Fifty years ago in New Orleans, Louisiana, a taste sensation was born. What began with one small restaurant and one big idea turned into a craze that swept the nation—and the world."

In 1972,

"Alvin C. Copeland Sr., opens “Chicken on the Run” in the New Orleans suburb of Arabi, serving traditional Southern-fried chicken. After several months of lackluster performance, he reopens the restaurant as “Popeyes” (after Popeye Doyle of The French Connection). This time he sells spicy, New Orleans-style chicken."

Today Popeyes has more than 3,700 locations globally with more than 3,000 restaurants in the United States and Canada alone.

If there are any updates, I will report them here on Newsbreak. Please let me know in the comments what you think about this location closing.
