Kentucky's battle with COVID-19 has been one of unforeseen challenges. According to a KY COVID-19 weekly report, from the Cabinet of Health and Family Services (CHFS), as of May 9th, 2022 Kentucky has lost reported over 1.3 million cases and 15,734 COVID-19 deaths. The US recently crossed a grim milestone of 1 million reported COVID-19 deaths, for which the Kentucky Governor has order flags lowered to half staff until Monday, May 16th.
The Governor remarked on the matter as published in an office press release,
"all people are unique and irreplaceable children of God, and all those we have lost deserved more time on this Earth, more time with their families."
Currently, the Kentucky Public Health department indicates through a visual that 3 out of 120 counties are currently at a medium COVID-19 Community Level, as indicated in yellow.
Counties that are at a medium level are Union County, Henderson County, and McCracken County.
The Kentucky Public Health department recommends that counties at a medium COVID-19 Community Level:
- Stay up to date with vaccines
- Consider mask use in indoor congregate settings
- Targeted mask use in schools and other indoor settings following exposures
- Stay home when sick and follow isolation & quarantine guidance
- Consider wearing well-fitted mask in all indoor public settings
Kentucky's Commonwealth seeks to honor those fallen to the COVID-19 pandemic, with a state-wide half staff flag status. Kentuckians with question about COVID-19 or about vaccines are encouraged to call the COVID-19 Hotline at 1 (800) 722-5725; the line is open from 8AM to 5PM EST.
