Successful people really seem to have it all—the perfect career, the happy family, the frequent exotic vacations and the ability to keep healthy. However, I think we can all agree that getting to the point in your life where you truly feel accomplished and fulfilled takes hard work, motivation and dedication.
It might seem that successful people are lucky, but that is not always the case. With the correct mindset, mentality and long-term goals, anything can be possible for anyone, including you.
Here are a few habits that highly successful people share in common:
Create long-term goals.
Setting goals for yourself is something extremely important to keep in mind when wanting to achieve something great in your life. Without goal setting, you will likely get “lost” and sometimes even lose sight of what you are trying to do in the first place. Something to always keep in mind when goal setting is to be realistic with yourself and your expectations. Set goals in which you know are possible to meet with enough work and dedication and get to it. Try purchasing a blank journal in which you can dedicate to goal-setting. Each month take some time to jot down your specific goals and what you need to accomplish in order to meet those. Then begin working down the list until you reach your ultimate goal.
It cannot be stressed enough that saving money is essential for success. Living “paycheck to paycheck” is unfortunately the only option for some, but if it is possible to save even $200 from each paycheck, you are already at a good start. Setting goals of where or what you would like your savings to look like at the end of each year is a great way to start. Spending all of your money on nonessential luxuries can be pointless when that money could be going to something more important like a down payment on a house or even new experiences or travel. Set a budget with your money so you are not spending it mindlessly.
This can be as simple as rewarding yourself when the reward is not necessarily deserved. Create boundaries for yourself therefore you can clearly understand your limitations. A simple example of a boundary would be to stick to a clear regimen between work, goals and social life. If you decide to dedicate two hours before bed to work on your side hustle, try not to go over those two hours because this is how one might experience burnout. When we take on more than our bodies can handle it creates stress and an overall negative mindset. It can also affect the ability for you to see your goals as a positive rather than a negative. Set boundaries and try not to overwork yourself.
Focus on your physical and mental health.
This can mean a variety of things for different people, however; the main concept here is to ensure that you are taking good care of your physical body and mental state. Try to regularly work out or stay active, even if that means taking a daily walk around the block. Any physical activity is beneficial for you. In addition to that, try to stick to a healthier diet (I know this is easier said than done). If it seems difficult, try swapping out your leftover dinner for a light salad or wrap. Another easy suggestion would be to take about 30 minutes each Sunday to prepare a “menu” for the week. Here you can list ideas for breakfast, lunch and dinner for all five days of the week in order to plan ahead rather than choosing last minute, which will typically lead to an unhealthy option.
Make wise investments.
This one is surely more difficult than it sounds (and probably even more difficult the younger you are). I know for me; I have made a few risky decisions in the past—one includes purchasing a designer purse when I truly did not need it. I share this because it is actually the perfect example. Yes, having a Gucci purse is amazing and it definitely makes me feel better about myself—wow, I probably seem extremely materialistic and shallow right now. However, this was not an investment which would benefit me and my goals later in the future. If you are planning on doing a huge splurge, its suggested that it be on something which will help you grow closer to your long-term goal. A perfect example would be investing in an online course which will teach you something or even investing in a new desktop computer to help you edit your videos more sufficiently. Be smarter about what you spend your money on, especially if you are on a budget.
Take other’s (negative) opinions with a grain of salt.
People will always have an opinion, whether it be positive or negative. The important thing to remember is to always stay true to yourself and what you believe in. If someone you know does not believe in the same aspect or idea, it does not discredit your beliefs. When people think you are crazy for wanting to quit your 9-5 job, let them know that they are entitled to their own opinion, however everyone’s definition of happiness or success can look different. There is no need to argue when people do not see something your way. There will always be people who do not agree or understand your reasoning. It is what you choose to do with their opinions which constitutes your state of mind.
Never give up.
If you are determined to achieve your goal, it will happen. Like I mentioned previously, it will not be easy and sometimes you are going to want to give up. The important aspect is that you don’t. With hard work, effort, motivation and dedication, your goals are attainable. Never let yourself believe that you are not capable of something because you are. Work hard and do not give up until you reach that goal. Once you reach that goal, you will thank yourself because it will all prove to be worth it in the end.
