If you're looking for a unique weekend travel destination, you're in luck.
Reader's Digest has recently compiled a list of each of the 50 state's best hidden gems from waterfalls and springs to museums and parks.
The winner for the state of North Carolina is the Vollis Simpson Whirligig Park & Museum located in Wilson.
Vollis Simpson Whirligig Park & Museum is a 2-acre park that's open daily and completely free to the public.
The park is truly one-of-a-kind and features an art installation of supersize spinning pinwheels, also known as whirligigs. The installation features 30 revolving works of art in total as well as the occasional music and film program, a farmers market, a picnic area, and even tai chi classes.
This fall, the park will host a farm festival to help support the Wilson Education Partnership.
The event will take place on Saturday, October 14th from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. and will feature live music, pumpkin carving, face painting, adoptable dogs, tractors, a farmer's market, and plenty of food trucks.
