A newly released list of the poorest communities in the country has been released from the online finance site known as Insider Monkey.
They have analyzed recent census data including the poverty rate, median household income, and unemployment rate in order to create a list of the poorest cities in each of the 50 states.
The results have been revealed and the poorest city in Tennessee is Memphis with a poverty rate of 22.6% making it the 24th poorest city in the nation.
Like most urban areas in the United States, the city continues to struggle with barriers to prosperity including higher-than-average crime rates, failing public school systems, and a lack of high-paying job opportunities.
