Arkansas lakes are picturesque spots where you can cool down, take a swim, and spend some much-needed time outdoors relaxing.
AR is actually home to over 2,000 lakes that each offer something special and unique. Some are known for their sandy shoreline while others are known for their pristine landscape. Lake Ouachita is known for having the clearest water.
Arkansas' largest lake, Ouachita offers 40,000 acres of clear, clean water surrounded by the scenic Ouachita National Forest. It is located out in western Arkansas about an hour and a half outside of Little Rock.
Completed in the year 1953, the lake was originally used to control floods and provide electricity. Today, it is used primarily for recreational activities.
Lake Ouachita is an absolute must-visit for anyone who loves the outdoors. The area features a stunning natural setting perfect for hiking, swimming, boating, and fishing, and offers plenty of lodging including cabins and campgrounds.
Scuba diving is another popular activity here. Bream, crappie, catfish, striped bass, and largemouth bass can all be seen here.
Ouachita is deepest near the dam at around 200 feet. In the summer months, the water is a warm 70 degrees. Its pristine waters are largely undeveloped making them clean and clear most of the time.
The summer is host to a variety of different events at the lake, from scenic lake tours to boat races and so much more.
