Usually, it is the cities in the northern United States that tend to get a bad rep when it comes to unfriendly and unwelcoming attitudes.
In fact, most Tennesseans take pride in their state’s friendly and welcoming nature. But, according to a new study, there's one city in Tennessee that is up there with New York City, Philadelphia, and Boston when it comes to being rude.
The editors over at Preply have surveyed over 1,500 residents of the 30 largest metropolitan areas in the country and asked them about the rudest behaviors in their city. These include common occurrences like people being absorbed by their phones, refusing to let people merge in traffic, and being noisy in shared spaces.
The city of Memphis ranked highest in all five common rude behaviors, the most out of any U.S. city.
Apparently, the city of Memphis has a real problem letting other drivers merge in traffic. The city also struggles with inconsiderate public behaviors like watching videos at full volume in quiet spaces, not respecting personal space, being rude to service staff, and overall just being noisy in general.
But don't fret, Tennessee isn't all bad news. According to a similar study done by Preply, the city of Nashville has actually come in at number 4 for the most polite city in America.
What do you think? Does Memphis deserve this title as one of America's rudest cities? Do you think Nashville is any friendlier? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section.
