There's certainly no place like home for the holidays–but some places are definitely exceptions. That is certainly true for the towns and cities named on Trips to Discover's list of the Most Festive Christmas Towns in the Country.
The online publication has scoured the country for the best and most festive communities that come alive during the holidays and Skaneateles has come in as number 1 for New York State.
Skaneateles is a small town in central New York that can be found within the beautiful Finger Lakes region.
As per tradition that dates back nearly 30 years, the town of Skaneateles brings the classic known as "A Christmas Carol" to life each and every year during their Dickens Christmas event.
Festivities always kick off the day after Thanksgiving with a parade. This year, the entire month of December will be jam-packed with fun holiday activities to enjoy.
Highlights of the season include musical performances, snowman making contests in the park, trunk shows, Christmas carol singalongs, visits from Santa Claus, and festive refreshments like eggnog and roasted chestnuts.
The holidays in Skaneateles also always include horse-drawn carriage and wagon rides around the village for a truly old-fashioned Christmas experience.
At the end of the town's pier, you'll find a magical illuminated Christmas tree inside a gazebo that truly shows off the Skaneateles' festive spirit. It's easy to see why this town is one of the absolute best places to visit during the holidays.
