The Legend Behind this Connecticut Opera House is Terrifying

Travel Maven

Back in the day, opera houses were incredibly popular places that functioned as entertainment venues similar to today’s theaters and concert venues. opera houses could be found in most cities across the country but today, they remain very rare to spot.

Ansonia was once home to a thriving opera house that was constructed back in 1870. The business sadly had to cease operations in 1971 due to low attendance rates. It has sat vacant for over 50 years now.

Since its closing, the abandoned building has attracted many trespassers over the years. While most are young kids looking for trouble, some are actually just interested in the history of the place. There have also been many paranormal investigators who have visited the site as well.

Several visitors to the abandoned opera house have claimed to have seen ghostly orbs. There have been reports of more than 40 spirits inhabiting the opera house. One paranormal team in particular claims to have seen a goat humanoid located on the balcony during their visit. The team went on to explain that the opera house serves as an interdimensional portal, which may explain why spirits seem to come and then suddenly vanish.

Whether or not you believe in ghosts, the community of Ansonia certainly does. The town hosted its first-ever ParaConn during the summer of 2021, a paranormal convention that featured special guests, speakers, seminars, activities, entertainment, and 80 vendors. The event returned for summer 2022 and plans on becoming an annual event.

As of recently, the town of Ansonia has plans to bring the opera house back as a social entertainment venue in a new way for the city. City officials hope a revival of the abandoned building will be a positive enhancement to Main Street.
