This Middle of Nowhere General Store in Virginia Has Some of the Best Sandwiches in the State

Travel Maven

Virginia is a state abundant with sandwich options. From comfort food favorites like grilled cheeses to the infamous Virginia ham sandwich, no matter what you are craving you'll find it somewhere within the Commonwealth.

With so many options to choose from, it can be hard to discern which food joints are good, and which ones are great.

Depending on where you live you probably already have your own personal favorite spot to order a juicy sandwich, but if we've learned anything from the experts, some of the best and most mouthwatering restaurant establishments are hidden in the most unassuming places.

Natural Bridge General Store and Cafe is one of those places. Hidden in the middle of seemingly nowhere, this charming country store and restaurant is located along the Blue Ridge Mountains in the small town of Natural Bridge Station.

Part grocery store, ice cream counter, bakery, and deli, Natural Bridge is truly a one-stop shop. You'll even find a shelf full of antiques and collectibles here.

The store's cafe is called Natty B Cafe. Here you'll find a deli counter filled with meats perfect for cookouts and a wide variety of premium Boar's Head cold cuts. The dining area is a rustic space decorated with vintage cocoa cola signs, metal stools, and tables made from old barrels.

Most known for their delicious sandwiches, Natty B offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner options. Start your day off with a breakfast sandwich or one of their many breakfast specials including biscuits covered in sausage gravy and served with homefries.

Come lunchtime, options are endless. Natty B offers both classic and gourmet sandwiches. If you're looking for something simple, their grilled cheese is a must-try. Served on fresh sourdough bread and topped with layers of American and cheddar cheese, order this sandwich with a side of their homemade tomato soup and you've got the ultimate in comfort food meals.

If you're looking for something different try the Arcadia Sub, a 9-inch toasted sub topped with ham, salami, provolone, tomatoes, and lettuce. If ham isn't your fave, one of the cafe's most popular sandwiches is the Reuben, served on rye bread with thousand island dressing on the side.

The cafe's delicious homemade ice creams and desserts are the perfect complements to any meal. Choose between ice cream, freshly made eclairs, or pies. You will not regret the extra calories.
