The sounds of clickity-clacking pointy toed boots and cackling crones filled the air in the downtown shopping district of Brooklyn, Michigan last night. Witches Night Out, an annual event, drew a slew of shoppers dressed in black dresses and striped tights. Their steepled hats were festooned with everything from owls, mice, and spiders to rhinestones, tulle, and ebony silk flowers.
Local businesses welcomed the swarm of spooky shoppers with special drawings, discounts, food, and refreshments. Sara Bieda, owner of Sweet Caroline’s Clothing and Boutique, hosted the event. Here, she is pictured with a cauldron full of her magical, potent potions. Witches flew through the doors to purchase an eclectic array of fashions ranging from cowgirl to country club.
A friendly man in an orange pumpkin suit greeted ghoulish guests with intoxicating elixirs at Kelsey’s Boutique & Gifts as shoppers were tempted by designer clothing, jewelry, and purses.
These two ladies were lured to the festivities by an evening filled with frightfully frivolous fun. It was a night to celebrate the season with friends and family. Their smiles say it all.
The cloaked crowd was treated to a flash mob by a troupe of local belly dancers. They took to the streets and mesmerized onlookers with their impromptu performance as their coin-ladened hip scarves jangled with each shimmy and shake.
This crone insisted she hadn’t had rhinoplasty. Her defiant stare dared anyone to prove her wrong. I took her at her word. No need to stir the pot!
The sight of a man in a Jason mask couldn’t scare people away from the best ice cream in town. The Village Creamery had a coven of witches lined up for a tasty treat. Hey, what’s that in his hand? Hint: it’s not an ice cream scoop! Eek!

Throughout the evening, shoppers stopped in for a spell at Shady’s Tap Room. This witchy woman proved brooms aren’t only a mode of transportation. She used her’s as a guitar while singing karaoke. She conjured up a huge applause with a voice that could steal souls.
Each year, Witches Night Out in Brooklyn, Michigan gets bigger and better. It’s a great way to get your mystical mojo on and become enraptured by a huge assortment of fashion, jewelry, and decorations for the home. Happy haunting!
