Finding affordable things for a young family to do together can be tricky. This Saturday, September 18, 2021 from 11 AM — 3 PM, Oakland Township Parks & Recreation Commission is sponsoring the Goodison Good Tyme Festival. This free festival has been an annual event since 2003. Along with everything else, it was cancelled in 2020 and folks are anxious for its return!
The forecast looks perfect, and what better place to bring the kids on a beautiful autumn day than a park? The Goodison Good Tyme Festival will take place at Bear Creek Nature Park located at 740 West Shell Road, Rochester, Michigan. This event has something for everyone in the family!
This year, there will be a stiltwalker, balloon art, and tunes from Gemini Music. Folks from Dinosaur Hill Nature Preserve of Rochester Hills will be instructing children how to paint and stencil T-shirts with nature-themed designs. There will also be two inflatable mazes where children can compete to see who can find the exit first.
For those with adventurous spirits, head over to the zipline and reach new heights of fun! Or maybe your family would like to discover archery. There will be USA Archery certified instructors on hand to teach the basics of how to use a bow and arrow in a safe and supervised environment.
Be sure and say hello to the deputies from the Oakland County Mounted Division! They will join in on the excitement when they stop in for lunch. I’m sure the deputies will be happy to answer horse-related questions from the children.
The best part about this family-friendly festival is that all the activities for children are free — and so is admission! There will be food trucks on-site selling food, snacks, and drinks for a nominal fee.
While you are enjoying the festival, you are also welcome to roam the beautiful 107 acres of Bear Creek Nature Park. The diverse landscape contains woodlands, meadows, marshlands, and wetlands. The limestone trails and boardwalks are ADA accessible. There are also mowed trails to explore. Don’t miss the opportunity to see a variety of wildlife.
The park also has a playground for 5–12 year old kids needing to expend some extra energy!
I hope you will be able to take advantage of this fun and free family-oriented festival. If you have been to the Goodison Good Tyme Festival in the past, or have visited Bear Creek Nature Park in Rochester, I’d love to hear about your experience in the comments!
