Attention Onsted-area fun seekers! The Onsted Festival is coming soon!

Back in the day, the Onsted Festival was a place for the community to gather for live music, games, and family fun.

One of Sam Lafata’s campaign promises before he was elected as mayor in 2018 was to bring the festival back. He followed through in 2019 and Covid foiled the plans in 2020. Now, Sam Lafata is passionate about making 2021 Onsted Festival the biggest and best one yet! Along with hardworking volunteers, Onsted plans to host their festival August 20th, 21st, and 22nd. Mark your calendars because you won’t want to miss it!

The village will shut down Main Street Friday, August 20th to make room for the festivities. They will kick things off with a classic car show from 5:45 PM — 8 PM and music from Midwest Homegrown Band from 8 PM — 11 PM. In 2019, the number of vintage cars shattered the Onsted Festival record books and is expected to do so again!

Saturday, August 21st, the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion will host a pancake breakfast from 7 AM — 11 AM. At noon, the Onsted cheerleaders will perform, followed by jugglers and balloon twisters provided by the amazing folks from Blue Crow Talent.

For animal lovers, at 2 PM there will be a pet parade where costumes and creativity are encouraged. “This isn’t just a dog and cat show. We welcome any pet. If you have a goldfish, decorate the bowl and parade it down Main Street!” Lafata told me. There will be prizes for the zaniest participants in categories that will not be disclosed until they are awarded. Think “The Pet and Owner that Look Most Alike” and crazy things like “The Longest Tail” or “Biggest Eyebrows.” Start planning an outrageous way to showcase your pampered pet now!

The Lenawee County Humane Society Adoption Society will be there at 3:00 to encourage responsible want-to-be pet owners to consider adoption. Animals will not be on-site.

From 4 PM - 6 PM, Kevin Nicols will be entertaining the crowd with guitar music. At 6:00, the party revs up with a dance party on Main Street. The Red, White, and Bluegrass Band will perform atop a semi-truck trailer until 8 PM, followed by the wildly popular band, Leadfoot, from 8 PM — 11 PM. During Leadfoot’s performance, fire breathers from Blue Crow Talent will be astounding the crowd while dancing with hula hoops.

But, wait … there’s more!

While Main Street will be packed with attractions, there will be a petting zoo at Village Park on Saturday from 11 AM — 5 PM. Not only will there be adorable animals to interact with, there will be pony rides as well! There is also a Corn Hole Tournament from 12 PM — 6 PM. Did I mention the roving magician? On Friday and Saturday Kelly’s Inflatables will be delighting children and the young at heart with enormous bounce houses and rock walls!

Sunday is Farm and Family Day with the Farmer’s Market from 10 AM — 2 PM in Village Park. On all three days there will be food vendors. Latafa told me there will be, “the best elephant ears you will ever find in the world!” Local artisans will be at the park Friday — Sunday. If you are looking for unique one-of-a-kind art — the Onsted Festival is the place to go! The Onsted Festival committee is still accepting applications from artisans and food vendors. Call Sam Lafata at (517) 499–8954 for further information.
