Sunshine and warm weather conjures up images of dinners in the backyard, picnics, and barbeques. What better way to make a good meal a fabulous meal than to add cheese? Take a trip to Williams Cheese Company located at 998 N. Huron Road in Linwood, Michigan and I guarantee you will melt when you see their selection of high quality, award winning cheese.
Williams Cheese offers traditional cheese such as Cheddar, Colby, and Swiss, but I urge you to try something new. Among their tantalizing array of options, there is: Mild Havarti, Extra Sharp Pinconning Daisy, Limburger, Green Onion Ranch, and Smoked Hot Pepper.
Don’t forget to check out their wide selection of cheese spreads! The flavors include Bacon and Cheddar, Jalapeno Cheddar, and Garlic & Herb. My personal favorite is the Original Horseradish Spread. Want a spread that is truly unique? Try Raspberry Pineapple Cream Cheese Spread or Roasted Pineapple Habanero Cream Cheese Spread — both are terrific on a toasted bagel!
Once I discovered their Amish butter roll, which is hand-rolled by real people and shaped into a log, I was hooked. It is creamy, smooth, and whey better (pun intended) than the kind manufactured by machines.
In 1945, Jim and Jenny Williams began their cheese business. They used an old barn as their warehouse. Now, Williams Cheese churns out more than 5 million pounds of cheese annually. Udderly amazing! (No more puns, I promise.)
While their business has grown and changed over the years, their commitment to quality and maintaining the highest standards has not. They are still family owned.
If you visit their Linwood, Michigan shop, you will be welcomed by Bessie, a huge cow, in front of the building. Bessie’s neckwear changes with the seasons. She may be wearing a garland of evergreens in the winter or flowers in the summer. Bessie provides a great photo-op with the kids! Hours are Monday — Friday 8AM-6PM and Saturday and Sunday 9AM-6PM.
Williams Cheese also has an online store. Check your local Meijer store — many carry Williams Cheese products, particularly the cheese spreads.
On the Williams Cheese website, they share some of their family recipes. Here’s one that is sure to be a hit with your family as well:
Grandma Williams Macaroni & Cheese Casserole
16 oz. Macaroni
16 oz. Williams Sharp Pinconning Cheese (shredded)
3 cups milk
3 tsp. dry mustard
Salt and pepper to taste
Prepare macaroni as directed on the box. Strain and let cool. Grease a 2-quart casserole dish, line bottom with macaroni, 2–3 noodles high. Add salt and pepper to taste and sprinkle on a layer of cheese. Continue layering until pan is full. In a mixing bowl combine milk, dry mustard, and eggs. Beat well. Pour mixture over top layer until about ½ inch from the top. Bake at 375 degrees for 45 to 55 minutes until bubbling and golden grown. If the top browns too quickly, turn down to 350 degrees.
Enjoy! Let me know what you love about Williams Cheese in the comments.
