Woman horrified when she discovers a bottle of prescription pills in husband's pants pocket: 'I didn't know what it was'

*This is a work of nonfiction based on actual events as told to me by a family member, who experienced them firsthand; used with permission.

When a woman goes through her husband's pockets, she never knows what she will find. Some of the time, if she finds anything at all, she will find items that could destroy their marriage. At least that's what happened to a close family member.

My aunt was going through the pockets of my uncle's jeans when she felt a hard lump through the outside of his front pocket. To be fair, she was doing his laundry and needed to make sure all his pockets were empty before tossing them into the washing machine. She wasn't just snooping around.

Although I wouldn't blame her if she was.

She pulled the object out of his dirty jeans and found a bottle of prescription medication. His name was on the label. She took a closer look.

"I was horrified when I saw it was a bottle of sildenafil citrate," she told me. "Well, at first I didn't know what it was. Then I searched for sildenafil citrate online, then I was horrified. And furious. How could a man take sildenafil citrate without his wife knowing? It's absurd," she said.

My aunt decided to dump the medication in the toilet and replace them with Aleve. "They look almost exactly the same," she said. "I highly doubt he would inspect them. Even if he did, so what? It's not like he was taking the pills for a medical condition. It was a vanity prescription, at best."

Whether my uncle figured out her ruse remains a mystery. One thing is for certain, he never mentioned anything to my aunt.

If my uncle realized what my aunt had done, he kept it to himself. After all, confronting her would have been as good as giving himself away.

Either way, the moral of this story is to never assume you know what your significant other is up to. You may find something that could change your life forever.

The best advice I can give anyone in a similar position as my aunt is to talk it out with your partner first instead of jumping to conclusions and taking drastic measures. Communication can solve a lot of problems before they become bigger ones.

Cheating spouses have been around since the beginning of time, and it's understandable why someone would jump to conclusions when they find something suspicious in their partner's pockets. But no matter what you think might be going on, make sure you communicate with your partner first to get answers and figure out a resolution. It could save you both time and heartache.

As for my aunt and my uncle, they each took their secrets to the grave. The truth died with them. My aunt will never know what my uncle was doing and my uncle will never know how close he came to being found out.

What would you have done if you found a secret prescription in your husband's name? Comments are welcome.
