Clarence Edmond Shackelford (AKA) "M1Y" - The Artist, a publicist, the founder of Tour Tyler Texas and also the founder of Texas African American Museum both programs are under the auspices of the Empowerment Community Development Corporation, which is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit.
The Texas Minority Coalition is a 501(c)(4) conservative social welfare organization established in 2018 to Unite, Educate and Inspire Conservative Minorities across the state of Texas through a message of Faith, Family, and Freedom.
This is our Third Year celebrating Asian American and Pacific Islander Month. Our first recipient in 2021 was Dr. Grace English, 2022, Dr. John Kim, and JAMA Ministries. The 2023 recipient is Mechele Agbayani Mills. She was born in the Philippines. Her family moved to the States during the nursing shortage in the 70s.
Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month (as of 2009, officially changed from Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month) is observed in the United States during the month of May and recognizes the contributions and influence of Asian Americans and Pacific Islander Americans to the history, culture, and achievements of the United States.
For over 13 years, Mechele Agbayani Mills has served as President/CEO of the Better Business Bureau Serving Central East Texas where she provides strategic direction and leadership and financial and operational oversight for the Tyler office which serves 19 counties in East Texas.
Since the age of 20, she has served in leadership roles in the public, private, and nonprofit sectors.
Mechele holds a bachelor's in journalism/Public Relations from UT Tyler and a master's in business administration from Baylor University.
She writes for the Tyler Morning Telegraph, has a bi-monthly report on KETK, and writes for numerous other publications in the East Texas area and abroad.
She currently serves on the Executive Committee for the Board of Directors for the International Council of Better Business Bureaus and Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce and is a member of Catalyst 100 Leadership Tyler and the Women's Fund of Smith County.
She has served as an advisor for the East Texas Center for Nonprofits, UT Tyler Regional Alumni Council, and Heart of Tyler, and in 2012 was honored by Women in Tyler as a "Woman who Gives".
Mechele loves hiking, kayaking, playing tennis, singing, traveling, cooking, and eating.
