Texas Peace Officers who made the supreme sacrifice while performing their duties today at the Peace Officer Memorial 2023. Fallen law enforcement officers honored in Downtown Tyler ceremony.

Fourteen law enforcement officers who lost their lives in Smith County since 1851 were honored Wednesday during the annual Peace Officers Memorial Service held during National Police Week.

In 1962, President Kennedy issued Proclamation 3537, which proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15 falls as National Police Week. ⁣⁣

Established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962, National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives or who have become disabled in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.⁣⁣

God, I thank you for this day and I thank you for this time we have to honor our fellow peace officers who served before us. Our Brothers and Sisters who gave the ultimate sacrifice; and lost their lives in service to others. We want to honor their memories and celebrate their bravery and dedication. God, I pray for the families and friends of our fallen officers. I pray for the husbands, wives, children, parents, and friends left behind. God I pray you comfort them as we remember and honor the selfless acts of these peace officers to make our community better.
Lord your Word tells us that You are a God who loves righteousness and justice. I pray for your protection over our Peace Officers and First Responders. Keep us safe from the hands of the wicked; protect us from the violent. May we serve as your instruments of peace and goodness, while confronting the evil and hate in this world. Protect us. Give us Strength, Wisdom and Discernment as we work to honor you, and serve our community. In the name of Jesus Christ, I Pray. -Tyler Police Department Sgt. Brian Bulman
