Remembering The Past - Dr. Joy B. Ross Wednesday, August 27, 1969 - East Texas is growing all around.

Clarence Edmond Shackelford, attended the Texas College Day Nursery school from 1964 to 1968 as a pre-primer ages 2 to age 6 on the Texas College Campus.

Dr. Ross was born in Oklahoma City, Okla. and moved to Texas when she was 4 years old. She was reared in Bryan, Texas and graduated from Prairie View High School. She completed her undergraduate work at Prairie View A & M College where she majored in general home economic.

She served as a home demonstration agent in Smith County for three years before doing her graduate work.

Dr. Ross received her master's degree from Kansas State College, Manhattan, Kansas majoring in nutrition and minoring in child development and family life.

Before receiving her doctor's degree, Dr. Ross taught nutrition and child development at Prairie View A & M College, Tillotson College in Austin and Texas College.

She is presently director of Texas College's Day Nursery. She is wife of Carl Ross and mother of Mrs. Mattie Williams, teacher of Tuskegee Institute in Tuskegee, Ala. and Carl Edward II, student at Prairie View College.
