Tour Tyler Texas - Texas Pride TV - M1Y - Empowerment Community Development Corporation by Clarence Edmond Shackelford community publicist in East Texas since 1985:
It’s National Police Week, and Tour Tyler Texas wants to take this opportunity to share our appreciation for all of our law enforcement officers. Being a part of the Thin Blue Line was never easy, but it’s gotten even more complicated in recent years. As a result, our communities have become less safe. In 2022, homicide rates went up by 48 percent, aggravated assaults and domestic violence incidents increased by 4 percent, and car theft increased by 14 percent.
Police Week in Tyler 2022 - History of the Tyler Police, between 1846 and 1909, Law Enforcement for the City of Tyler was primarily provided by Federal Marshals. In 1909 the City hired its first police officer. That officer became Tyler’s first Chief of Police J.J. Ray in 1916. To date, the City of Tyler has only had nine Police Chiefs.
The Tyler Police Department is authorized to have 200 sworn personnel and 59 non-sworn personnel. The sworn personnel consist of (1) Police Chief, (3) Assistant Police Chiefs, (7) Lieutenants, (27) Sergeants, and (162) Officers which includes Investigators and other specialized units. National Police Week offers honor, remembrance, and peer support while allowing law enforcement, survivors, and citizens to gather and pay homage to those who gave their lives in the line of duty.
Chief Jimmy Toler "The Tyler Police Department is one of the finest Police Departments in the country. The men and women of the Tyler Police Department are the ones that make it great. We are dedicated to developing strong partnerships with the community and providing outstanding service.
The Tyler Police Department works to continuously improve and meet the needs of the citizens of Tyler. We are an innovative department that explores new opportunities and ideas. If you are looking for a challenging career and a chance to make a difference, we have a career waiting for you."
