Former Fleming Island Golden Eagle and current Notre Dame Fighting Irish lacrosse player Eric Dobson won the NCAA 2023 D1 Men’s Lacrosse National Championship over the Duke Blue Devils Monday afternoon, 13-9.
Notre Dame was crowned champs in front of 30,462 fans at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, home of the Philadelphia Eagles. The 2023 championship was the first national championship in program history. Dobson was vital to the Fighting Irish’s victory as he scored two out of the 13 goals for the team.
Notre Dame finished the season with a 14-2 record with a 6-1 record at home, a 5-1 record on the road and a 3-0 record on neutral site games.
Dobson played every game for the Fighting Irish and finished the 2023 season with 34 goals, 11 assists and 45 points on 104 shots. Dobson is a junior and has been a starter since he stepped on campus at Notre Dame in 2021. In his career, he has 39 starts with 72 goals, 29 assists and 101 points on 242 shots.
Dobson had 149 goals and 91 assists in his high school career at Fleming Island. Dobson was a two-time team captain and a three-time MVP for the Golden Eagles, according to the Notre Dame Men’s Lacrosse website. He was a First Team All-State selection in Florida and a US Lacrosse All-American.
Dobson was a four-time Scholar Athlete at Fleming Island and graduated with an AICE diploma and was in the top 2 percent of Fleming Island’s 2020 graduating class.
