With the first week of the FHSAA Regional Softball Playoffs from May 8-12, Clay County had two teams get wins to continue their push for a State Championship. Listed below are the teams who played during the week and how they fared in their matchups.
St. Johns Country Day Spartans, Week Record: 0-1, Season Record: 11-5
The Spartans' season came to a close as they lost 16-1 on the road Wednesday night against the North Florida Christian Eagles in the first round of the FHSAA 2A Region 1 playoff.
Keystone Heights Indians softball, Week Record: 0-1, Season Record: 9-18
Keystone Heights’ season came to a close in the first round of the FHSAA 3A Region 1 playoff to the Florida State University High School Seminoles Wednesday night, 15-1. Despite the loss, the Indians were able to squeeze into the playoff and have a home game courtesy of their District Championship victory.
Ridgeview Panthers softball, Week Record: 1-0, Season Record: 18-6
The FHSAA 5A Region 1 fourth-seed Panthers got a 5-0 victory at home Thursday night over the Ponte Vedra Sharks. The Panthers will face the in-county rival Clay High Blue Devils at home Tuesday night. Both teams played each other twice during the regular season. Clay won the first matchup 3-2 and Ridgeview won the second matchup 4-0.
Middleburg Broncos softball, Week Record: 0-1, Season Record 14-11
The Broncos' season came to a close as they suffered a 5-4 extra-innings loss on the road Thursday night to the Fort Walton Beach Vikings
Clay High Blue Devils softball, Week Record: 1-0, Season Record: 13-10
David defeated Goliath as the eight-seed Blue Devils got a 4-1 victory on the road Thursday night over the one-seed Gulf Breeze Dolphins. Prior to Clay’s victory, Gulf Breeze was undefeated with a 25-0 record. Clay will face the in-county rival Ridgeview Panthers on the road Tuesday night. Both teams played each other twice during the regular season. Clay won the first matchup 3-2 and Ridgeview won the second matchup 4-0.
Oakleaf Knights softball, Week Record: 0-1, Season Record: 10-12
The Knights’ season came to a close as they suffered a 2-0 loss on the road Thursday night to the Hagerty Huskies.
