Clay County Athletics held the Clay County District Schools Athletics Awards Show of 2023 at the Thrasher-Horne Performing Arts Center Wednesday night.
The award show is a chance for the First-Team All-County athletes across Clay County to be recognized in a significant fashion. The show is very similar to the ESPYS with MCs, guest speakers and a lot of individual and team awards. Student-athletes across 24 sports and all seven Clay County High Schools got a chance to be recognized Wednesday night and presented with an All-County medal. A total of 265 student-athletes were recognized.
Clay County Coordinator of District Athletics John Sgromolo helped develop the event in order to recognize everyone’s hard work in Clay County Athletics.
“The student-athlete experience in Clay County is second to none in our great state of Florida. We truly believe that we have some of the best coaches and athletic directors in the state right here in Clay County, said Sgromolo. “This evening will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience for our students and it wouldn’t happen without the generosity of our community partners.”
The student-athletes and coaches of Clay County got the red-carpet treatment during the entire event. As soon as they walked through the doors of the Thrasher-Horne Center, numerous photographers and videographers were taking pictures or videos as the athletes and coaches entered the event.
Some athletes also got to be interviewed prior to the main event on the Florida Sports Broadcast’s Clay County Athletic Awards V.I.P Show on their YouTube channel.
The main show had 1010XL media personalities Mia O’Brien and Emmanual Thalerland (ET) as the MCs who announced the First-Team athletes for every sport. The show also had numerous guest speakers, athletic directors and principals present over a dozen individual and team awards for their talent, leadership, determination and support of their fellow athletes and athletic staff.
If people missed out on the V.I.P Show and the main show, the live streams are still available on the Florida Sports Broadcasting and OneClay Sports YouTube channels.
