Tony Salazar

The St. Johns Country Day Spartans baseball team got a 26-0 mercy-rule win over the First Coast Christian Knights in the FHSAA 2A District 2 Semi-Final.

The game only lasted four and a half innings after the Spartans dominated the Knights on offense and defense. St. Johns had 12 runs in the first inning, six runs in the second inning and eight runs in the third inning. St. Johns had RBIs from over a dozen players. Those players include Shawn Andrade, Seth Alford (2), Kellen Brown, Mason Terry (2), Hunter Rodgers, Gabriel Gilliand, Camden Brown (2), Nick Bowden (4), Connor O’Steen, Trevor Bradley (2), Paule Janeczko, JD Hay (3) and Gavan Bradley. Hay’s RBIs came from his three-run home run in the bottom of the third.

Jack Ensell started on the mound for St. Johns and threw a no-hitter through four innings. Ensell was very close to throwing a perfect game through four innings. The lone batter for the Knights to get on base was hit by a pitch. Outside of that hit-by-pitch, Ensell struck out the other 12 batters.

The 21-4 Spartans will face a much tougher opponent at home Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in the 15-9 St. Joseph Academy Flashes for the FHSAA 2A District 2 Championship. Heading into the tournament, St. Joseph defeated Christ Church Academy 8-4 to put them into the championship game against the Spartans. According to MaxPreps, St. Johns is ranked as the 10th-best team in Florida and St. Joseph is ranked as the 219th-best team in Florida.
