15-Year-Old's Question Stops DeSantis in His Tracks: How One Teen Sparked National Conversation

Toni Koraza

The 15-year-old from New Hampshire has never asked a question that has gotten such a response as the one he did to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis earlier this year.

Quinn Mitchell, a high school student and aspiring writer, has made it a pastime to attend presidential campaign events in politically charged New Hampshire.

"Do you believe that Trump violated the peaceful transfer of power — a key principle of American democracy that we must uphold?" Mitchell asked.

Throughout the last two elections, she has attended more than 85 events and spoken with more than 35 candidates for the White House.

Because of that, he attended a DeSantis rally in Hollis on June 27, and he asked the Florida governor a subject that was on many people's minds.

After requesting Mitchell's biographical information, DeSantis responded with what has come to be a standard response on the campaign trail: If Republicans focus on the future in 2024 rather than the past, they will retake the White House, and President Joe Biden will be reelected.

However, DeSantis did not respond to Mitchell's query, which made news.

A week later, when Mitchell learned that DeSantis would attend a Fourth of July parade in Merrimack, he intended to follow up with the governor.

Mitchell claimed he felt awful about how his initial query gained attention the week prior, so he wanted to speak with DeSantis again.

The Daily Beast was the first to report on Mitchell's contact with DeSantis representatives during the march when he claimed they were hostile.

Never Back Down, the DeSantis super PAC had provided employees for the governor's presence at the march on that particular day, assisting in guiding the DeSantis family down the path.
