Former President Donald Trump is losing endorsements among his core MAGA backers.
A well-known Republican billionaire who supported former Donald Trump is now endorsing Florida Governor Ron DeSantis in the 2024 election.
"I'm in for DeSantis this time. I plan to do a lot to help DeSantis win," Hal Lambert said.
Lambert is the chair of Texas-based Point Bridge Capital, which oversees an investment fund named after Trump's "Make America Great Again" 2016 campaign slogan.
He said it's time for Republicans to get past the 76-year-old former president and support 44-year-old Ron DeSantis. Florida Governor is now seen as a rising star among the Republican ranks.
An exchange-traded fund managed by Lambert called "MAGA ETF" invests in businesses whose employees and political action committees mainly back Republican candidates.
The Republican contributor, a member of Trump's inauguration committee in 2016, claimed that after dinner with the governor and his wife, Casey, three weeks ago in Florida, he decided to support DeSantis.
Lambert emphasized that DeSantis is correct on important issues like border security, energy independence, and school choice. He also applauded the governor's solid and successful conservative track record in the Sunshine State.
The Republican financier said he was disgusted by the former president's performance during the latest CNN town hall, where Trump repeatedly doubled down on lies about the 2020 election. He's still saying the election was robbed from him.
Lambert added that Trump has been focusing too much on the past.
"We can't talk about things from four years ago that can't be changed," Lambert said. "Trump is going to have a difficult time winning the general election. The election won't be about Joe Biden's bad record. It will be a referendum on Trump instead."
