The COVID era policy Title 42 ended on May 11 and there were about 400 to 500 migrant encounters a day along the Texas border. Texas Governor Greg Abbott sent out his request for fellow governors to join him in this fight. So far, Abbott is receiving a strong response from other Republican governors.

Now, South Carolina has answered the call from Governor Henry McMaster.

In a statement, Governor McMaster said:

“At the request of Texas Governor Greg Abbott, I have directed the deployment of South Carolina National Guard troops to Texas to help hold the line on the Southern border."
“The safety and security of South Carolinians require that we stop the drug cartels, criminals, and terrorists from entering our country to peddle their poison.”

Governor McMaster intends to send the South Carolina National Guard to support Governor Abbott and Texas. Right now South Carolina is in the planning phase but McMaster wants to send the support by July 1.

McMaster also visited El Paso Texas in April to get a better look at the border crisis and the South Carolina Guard who were stationed there.

South Carolina becomes another state that is sending support to Texas. Other state governors responding include Florida, Nebraska, Virginia, Utah, Idaho, and Iowa.

Last month, 24 Republican governors supported Texas Governor Abbott on the border crisis. Several governors visited Texas and received a briefing on the border situation.

Some governors may see this as an immigration problem, but some also see the effects of fentanyl in their state.

Do you think Governor McMaster made the right decision to support Governor Abbott?
