Since Title 42 ended last week on May 11, Texas Governor Greg Abbott had been preparing for this day as he instituted several policies and plans to help the State. Not as many migrants crossed as expected since some may also be due to policies President Joe Biden initiated as well. If these policies last, only time will tell.

Governor Abbott restarted bussing migrants to sanctuary cities. He has already bussed migrants to Vice President Harris’ Washington neighborhood, Chicago, Philadelphia, and Denver.

On Friday, Governor Abbott was in Brownsville meeting with local law enforcement, the Department of Public Safety, and his Border Czar Mike Banks who he empowered earlier this year to improve border security.

Governor Abbott said:

“I’m here in Brownsville today to thank the hardworking men, women who are defending our border for their bravery and courage. Their extraordinary efforts have had a direct effect of keeping illegal immigrants out of Texas. These men and women in uniform here today, they're considered to be heroes by their fellow Americans. They should be proud of what they've done. I'm proud of what they've done. I thank all the Texas Department of Public Safety troopers and Texas National Guard soldiers for working around the clock to hold the line and defend our border.”
“Texas will never stop doing whatever it takes to respond to President Biden’s border crisis to keep criminals, terrorist, and deadly drugs like fentanyl off our streets.”
“We have Texas National Guard soldiers and Texas Department of Public Safety troopers on the Texas side of that razor wire, making sure no one gets through.”

Earlier in the week, Governor Abbott sent out a request to state governors to help support the Texas border. Some governors have already responded.

Abbott said:

“The National Guard, as well as law enforcement in other states, have seen what Texas is doing to block and prevent people from crossing our border illegally. We’re getting requests—from Idaho and Florida already—from other states to lend their National Guard or their law enforcement officers, who believe our border should be secured and our sovereignty should be protected.”

Governor Abbott plans to penalize migrants who cross illegally into Texas. He said:

"One is that we are seeking to make it a crime for anyone to cross into the state of Texas illegally. We will be able to begin arresting people for crossing into our state.”
"This is the state of Texas and we have every right to secure our border and that is exactly what we are doing."

What else can Governor Abbott do to secure the border?
