A rally was held this weekend in Austin where Governor Greg Abbott joined. The governor was there to support anti-abortionists at the 2023 Texas Rally For Life. The rally was also held on the 50th Anniversary of the Supreme Cort decision when Roe Vs. Wade was passed on January 28, 1973.
The rally was held on Austin’s Capital South Lawn.
This was the first rally since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned the Roe vs. Wade decision last summer.
The stance of Texas and abortion also bought ads in Texas locations from California Governor Gavin Newsom encouraging residents to come to California where abortion was still legal.
Governor Abbott said:
“All of you are life savers, and thousands of newborn babies are the result of your heroic efforts.”
The governor added:
“We promised we would protect the life of every child with a heartbeat, and we did. I signed a law doing exactly that.”
Governor Abbott was ahead of the Supreme Court decision as he signed Senate Bill 4 in September 2021.
Abbott said on Saturday:
"We promised we would protect the life of every child with a heartbeat, and we did. I signed a law doing exactly that. We passed a law that bans mail-order abortion drugs in Texas. We promised that if Roe v. Wade was overturned, abortions would be banned in Texas. It was overturned, and I signed a law that bans abortions in Texas."
In his speech, Governor Abbott highlighted the options that State provided for women on alternatives to abortion.
