After bad weather came into the Houston area this week, Governor Greg Abbott announced how you can report damages. On Thursday he provided some guidelines to self-report damages to homes and businesses in Southeast Texas.

The National Weather Service confirmed an EF2 and EF3 tornado hit the Houston area. There was damage to cars, homes, and businesses. An EF2 has winds gusting up to 135 mph and an EF3 has winds reaching 165 mph.

Governor Abbott said:

“The State of Texas is ready to assist Texans and businesses impacted by tornados in Southeast Texas communities. This disaster declaration will swiftly provide all necessary resources to help Texans navigate the recovery process during this difficult time. Texans impacted by severe weather are encouraged to self-report sustained damages to their homes or businesses through the iSTAT survey. Join Cecilia and me in praying for Texans and communities affected by these tornados as they begin to recover."

Texans can report the information on iSTAT here. The iSTAT website provides guidelines in English and Spanish on how to report your information.

The survey also gives emergency management officials information on how much damage was incurred.

Governor Abbott alerted Texans about bad weather coming in on Monday, January 23. He also alerted the Texas Department of Emergency Management to prepare for the weather that would affect residents.

If your home or business was damaged, it is still necessary to contact your insurance company. Your insurance company will help you with any damages from the weather.

Please share this information with your local neighbors who may need it so they can report any damages they had from the weather.
